Bye Bye Jack Higgins!

If he's that determined to go then get rid of him. Don't want a disgruntled little entitled piece of *smile* around the club moaning and whinging.

Is there anyway we can loan him out to a team in the Broome AFL League for a year?

Pretty simple from my perspective if a player doesn't want to be at my club I don't want that player, if shoe was on the other foot and RFC were chasing Higgo I wouldn't be giving up a 1st rounder, (and doubt many on here would if being honest), compensation probably lies somewhere in between what Saint's are offering but not much room to move in way of picks.
Higgo doesn't want to be there so let him go but unlike Oleg and Brando, (who had either given good service or at least battled hard for years to try and earn their spot in Oleg's case), I won't be wishing Higgo luck.

Wow, such vitriol towards Jack. That’s pretty sad.
Players come, players go. It’s a fact of football. Big deal, we move on.

My only concern is us not giving the Saints a free/cheap hit. They are very likely to challenge next year and they think Higgins will make them stronger.

We should not be in the business of making our competitors stronger without extracting a high price in return. You want him Saints? You pay.

Otherwise he stays. No big deal. Tom Papley was desperate to get to Carlton last year but ended up staying and had a career best year. Ryan O'Keefe wanted to leave Sydney for Hawthorn but ended up staying and a few years later won another flag as well as a Norm Smith medal.

I have no animosity but am a bit disappointed just the same.

As others have said Higgins can see the writing on the wall. Most likely the club can too with the number of promising mids coming through in Dow, RCD & Ross in particular.
2nd rounder & pick a player for needs. A tall forward would be good.
Look forward not back.

From my supporter's perspective it seems as though St.Kilda is trading, deliberately or otherwise, on their traditional reputation as losers. They absolutely carved us up in Round 4 and weren't as good later in the season. They should be regarded with the same suspicion as a Collingwood or West Coast.

Reckon if it was the other way around and RFC we're looking to trade for Higgo, we'd only want to pay a second round pick. As would most posters.

But its a buyers market and Higgo isn't a free agent, so really we should be able to extract high value from the trade. Not sure what is being proposed above is a good trade or not, but I guess i'll have some faith that the club knows what they're doing.

At the end of the day, i'm not that disappointed to see Higgo leave. I never warmed to him as a player and would be happy to take a pick and recruit another kid.
Some of those jokes he told in the halftime huddle were absolutely pathetic.

Good riddance

Looks like they get him for unders, not ideal but pragmatic and not horrible as some have suggested. Our overall MO is still the right one IMO. Get it done, keep movinfg forward, on the field or off.

Exhibit A, us :cupgold . Exhibit b, Essendon and Mr Hardball, 'tell-him-hes-dreamin'' Dodoro.

Both approaches consistent with their respective cultures and philosophies. I know who I'd rather be.

Matty Clarke had indicated we would likely be taking very few picks in this years draft which is why we would be happy taking future picks, we already have Gold Coasts future 3rd and now maybe St kilda's 2nd.
He said we were well stocked for midfielders, (RCD, Ross, Martyn, Dow), so losing Higgo maybe not all that critical.
I think our inactiveness this year all points to a planned attack next year both in trade for holes, (Jack replacement?), and in draft.

The Saints need to be fair and reasonable with their offer for Jack, they paid unders for Butler, pick 56.
If they refuse to make a decent offer for Higlet, I say we should go all out to get Max King next trade period, **** em.

people being a bit harsh on Jack. He didn't make the emergencies during the finals and suspect the club would have been totally honest with him regarding his weaknesses and chances for next year and beyond. Reckon the club would want the best for Jack and if that means more opportunities at the saints then we wouldn't want to stand in his way. Similar to butler, perhaps he doesn't quite fit in our style and system.

Yeh, just catching up on this thread and all of a sudden Jack is an ungrateful *smile* with an over inflated opinion of himself but has clear deficiencies....but we want a first rounder for him.

Jack is contracted for 2021. If St Kilda cannot present an equitable trade, they can get *smile*.

More than content to keep Higlet on the list as depth. I like the boy, but am thinking more and more he doesn't quite fit the Richmond Way.

If he goes for unders at the end of next season, so be it.

But letting contracted players walk for unders is bad business.

I did say i didn't warm to him as a footballer, not his personality.

I'm sure he just wants the best for his own career and he's making a decision which he thinks is right for him.

Good riddance isn't the term i would use though.

and two that have leapfrogged in front of him since 2018 when he was getting regular games, are Baker and Aarts,

And Bolton as well for that matter , he has slid in the pecking order since his debut season for sure .

If Higgins is “forced” to see out his contract with us but continues to think about leaving at the end of 2021 - it would be in his best interests to train hard and play the best possible footy he can and as many games as he can in the seniors
Ideally from his point of view he secures a regular spot in the best 22 - in which case it’d become win-win for him and us
At least he’d have retained his chances of attracting another club - or who knows - maybe change his mind about leaving
The worst thing he could do would be to sulk and waste a year

But I don’t want him to go for peanuts
