Bye Bye Jack Higgins!

Personally i see it that he doesnt have the confidence in his ability to dislodge anybody from the starting 22 and probably feels the only games he will get is if there are injuries and he see's his main opposition in Ross , Rcd , Dow , Ralph-smith and thinks these guys are pretty good and its going to be hard to get in and stay in.

Unless we get a 1st rounder we keep as his value is not going to get any lower and he can provide depth

If he's already got it in his mind that he can't crack a regular seniors gig then he's not going to get far. We may have already seen the best Higlet has to offer for his entire career.

1st rounder please Saints.

Wonder what the club told him he needs to work on when he was demoted?
Kicking, covering the ground more, impacting the play more (either with or without the ball). He is also on the slow side and doesn't have the burst speed of George, Baker and even Rioli.

But wouldn't give away cheaply as sits only just outside the best 22 of the best of the 18.

Higgins has been nudged by the club.

Don’t think he can make it as a midfielder, kicking is average at best, and he lacks speed, so in our system doubt he can hold his place in the team as a forward either.

Having said that he has played what, 40 games for almost 30 goals in the best team in the league, so he does have talent.

Smart move by him to find a place where he can secure his future, we need to remember, Higgins lives for footy, there is no Plan B.

Have to trust Blair here, maybe with some pick swaps we can salvage something from the former Pick 17.

Plenty of options, swapping first rounders 2020 or 2021, we will do Ok, but drafted players are like new cars, you lose 20% of value the moment you drive them out of the car yard.

As always, In Blair we trust.

Agree with most of that except the last bit. Some players increase in value, some of those by not even playing a la Fantasia.

Look some player increase in value sure, but most don’t.

Also a bit easier to increase in value when taken at Pick 55 like fanstasia than it is for a pick 17 like Higgins

Would trade for a pick in the 20's. Think his kicking and leg speed are a bit of a concern. Can get away with one but not both in our system.

When it comes to trading players everyone thinks we are soft, and it has become a problem.
We have a very useful player and he is valued by the coach who brought him back and then persevered, until injury forced him out.
No loss of face for Jack in that.

As in a previous post I think St Kilda’s future 1st should be the objective.

Don’t mind if we throw in our future 3rd or even the pick we got for Markov, but we should not bend further.
It’s all very well for Jack to call the coach and list manager personally to put his case. Sweet really but also strategic by the Saints and Jacks management, who should also be made aware that we are not going to give up quality without appropriate compensation.
Should this not get done and should he then not be renewed for what ever reason for 2022, time for his manager, to understand that if necessary, we will make a point of sending him to the draft.

We have a reputation for being fair and that’s a grand thing but part of that requires us to be firm. IIt is in everyone’s interest that we be that now.

The ball's in St.Kilda's court. They know the score, he's a contracted player, they need to declare their hand as to how much they want him. Easy for them to promise him the earth if they're expecting to get a bargain.

word around the traps is its done and clubs have agreed apparently.
Not 100% but looking like #21+Higgins for #17+2021 2nd rounder

not 100% though

Thank you t-d-t. I hope not TBH - should be a 1st rounder 2021, a 2nd is in the 30s.
Hope we dont do this.

Second rounder next year would be handy, but what would the point be of upgrading from 21 to 17 this year? Gonna be realistically something like upgrading from 30 to 26 in a *smile* show of a draft. Must be for points to on trade maybe?

I dont reckon there would be many of us wouldn't have taken a 2nd rounder for Kmac at the end of 2019.

and we would have handed our opposition the most influential wingman of the modern era.

Jack is undoubtably a talent.

yes he has deficiencies, but so does everyone on our list except Dustin Martin and Noah Balta.

Importantly, Jack is a prototype richmond player; he's a great fella, he is very tough, he has a big engine and he will selflessly play any role asked of him for the good of the team (well, maybe he's not so keen to play the autumn understudy role?)

in light of the above, and his contract status,

I imagine the price is Jack + 32 for pick 15

Why do this deal?

Its not great I agree with Rob. In points value terms what we are getting translates to approximately pick 26 (+197 uplift this year and around 520 odd points next year) which to my mind is shafted (is what we are getting). Again.

Stuff it stand pat and let Jack walk if he wants to next year. He is just as likely to accept a new deal next year if offered when he is playing a string of games anyway.

So a marginal first round upgrade in a heavily compromised draft and a 2nd rounder? Too nice Tigers.

Pump up his tyres, tell him he's in line for a senior berth but he's got to earn it like everyone else.

We're shooting for a ThreePeat and we need a squad of capable players.

I think the club should keep Higgo to his contract (unless Saints offer a good/fair trade). If he stays for 2021 he'll either be back in the 1s or we'll facilitate a trade to his club of choice.
