Brett Ratten sacked

It's a poor list. He couldn't do much more with it.

No one will be able to. Hasn't had a lot of luck.

He walks away with probably 1.2 Mil. Softens the blow.

I'd be furious if I was a Saints member.
noticed lenny hayes and "i'm so good as a footballer with brains" goddard joining the saints, is there another/ former coach? They must have one in mind who has agreed?

Yes Ian. Re-signing Ratten before conducting the review was stupendously stupid. However, once the decision to punt Ratts was made, the timing was clever.
It was as players , who signed, extended contracts who had no issue with Ratten , might have considered there options and asked to be traded or not consider St Kikda.

Legends that can’t be right!

No way would a coach agree to that!
6 months of a two year extension.

Where is my lawyer?
Hopefully it isn’t right. But reported that there was a clause in the contract that if he got sacked they would only need to pay out 6 months of it. Maybe when ratten signed it, he was thinking if they sacked him it would be 12-18 months into the contract, NOT 3 months in.
Again, *smile* up if it’s true

What more could Ratts achieve with that list?

There's some deluded heads at that organisation that's for sure.
He had a 32/31 winning record, not great but with that list was pretty good.

Saints version of Kevin Sheedy.
Yes; without any of the premiership success.

For a bloke who has never achieved the ultimate success as a player, coach or administrator he certainly has an over inflated opinion of his ability and for some bizarre reason continues to wield influence over that club. Probably just one of the number of reasons why they are so perennially rubbish.

fair call. it might also explain why St Kilda was a minor player in trade week. they knew what was coming

Exactly, their list is substandard. He did well to get as much out of it as he did. They are a defence and star mid short of a genuine contender. List management should have been the first slab off the rack

A low act to sack Ratten a day after the trade period finished. If it's not player driven, there will be a lot of unhappy players. A shame that apart from King, Steele and Marshall they haven't got anyone worth poaching.

The Aints are an attractive proposition for their next coach, they pulled off a massive coup by snaring Zaine Cordy in the trade period :rotfl1

An employment lawyer would have a field day sueing the Saints over this. How can they can sign him for 2 years only a few months back and Ratten only get 6 months wages.
Can almost guarantee that the AFL would be covering the remaining 18 months to avoid the Saints or the AFL being dragged through court and the negative publicity that comes with ruining peoples lives due to incompetent club management.
100% he should sue the saints and would have a great case
North , GWS , Bombers job available they effectively stopped him from exploring his options of applying for these positions and 2 months later sacking him.

he would have a bloody good case

Surely with list that the Saints have, Ratten should be just the beginning of a massive clean out at Moorabbin.

Leathlean and Bassatt using a lot of weasel words and avoidance in trying to explain Rattens demise.

Wow. That's ridiculous. Is that Walsh? Is Finnis still involved? He's mates with Dimma too.

He's got 2 years left. Another club that will be going to the AFL for a handout in a year or two.

Can't quite believe it.

The Tassie Saints has a nice ring to it...

Irony or what. David Noble and Simon Lethlean were involved in this review.

I read Lethlean didn't want to extend Rats' contract.
Wouldn't it have been Lethlean's decision? The way this bloke keeps failing up he'll take over Gil's job.

No wonder there’s rumours Wanganeen wants out. Just a *smile* club.
Even worse than Norf financially. Yet there's this romanticism about them. They do have a bigger following and cover a large area in Melbourne's south and bayside. Saves their bacon because with their record they should have been relegated decades ago. (From the VFA, after being kicked out of the VFL decades before that.)

Irrelevant club?

I was chatting to a StKilda supporter a few weeks ago. It turns out that we both attended the 1971 Grand Final between StKilda and Hawthorn as young kids.

He reminded me that, going into that game, both teams had won a single flag and were both going for number 2 that day.

Hawthorn now have 13.
Hawthorn has been an exceptionally well-run club but they also benefited massively from having the most lucrative recruiting zones, one of which was morally St Kilda's. The likes of Lethal and Dermie should have been St Kilda players.

Max King will be spewing that he signed on until 2026. Brother Ben won't want to go there, and is contracted till 2024. Get to work Blair.
Blair's already on it, I have no doubt.

Target King or Marshall Georgiades.
