Brett Ratten sacked

Question is who approved and implemented the "model"? They are the ones that should be punted.
He sure did didn’t he Aegean!

He is pretty influential even though he likes you to think otherwise.

3 months ago the board sign him / extend his contract for 2 years.

Today he is sacked! Wow.

-Players involved?
-Influential people?
-Another coach in mind?
-The fact they couldn’t land DeGoey and the pitch he may have been involved in the sell’.
-There lack of real drafting of ‘guns, over paying of players brought in’, there drafting this year’ ???
-is he / was he too nice or behind doors too brutal?

I’m saddened for the guy. He seems like one of the good ones.
Sacked from Carlton to bring in Malthouse. That failed….

Lost his son. Traumatic time for him and his family and still mourning.

Sacked from st Kilda.

Hope he gets his FULL 2 year salary paid.

Disgraceful, gutless, ruthless, back stabbing.

S..T , soulless club.

Wonder if Walsh what he said in the media on his appointment played some part. ? Did they ask him ‘off the record’ his opinion before he starts next month?

‘Irrelevant Club’

****disclaimer**
This has someone’s fingerprints all over it.
An ex coach returning!

St Kilda is a laughing stock. Ratten was key player the push to land De Goey. Then they sack him after he failed. Its easy to draw the conclusion that him keeping his job was dependent on them landing De Goey. For the life of me, I don’t know how a club can base a decision on this.

Reckon the timing is strategic. If you want to sack your likeable and respected coach, do it after the trade period to avoid the risk of a mass player exodus.

Ruthless but clever.

I reckon there is an element of ruthlessness., but also a lot of stupidity

Irrelevant club?

I was chatting to a StKilda supporter a few weeks ago. It turns out that we both attended the 1971 Grand Final between StKilda and Hawthorn as young kids.

He reminded me that, going into that game, both teams had won a single flag and were both going for number 2 that day.

Hawthorn now have 13.

That is what i was thinking. assumedly the decision to sack him was only reached in the last week or 2, so no time to hire a new coach anyway, so they thought it best to keep what little stability they had through the trade period, then sack him.

Reports in the media that they only have to pay him only 6 months of his 2 year contract
*smile* up if that’s true

Yes Ian. Re-signing Ratten before conducting the review was stupendously stupid. However, once the decision to punt Ratts was made, the timing was clever.

It's a poor list. He couldn't do much more with it.

No one will be able to. Hasn't had a lot of luck.

He walks away with probably 1.2 Mil. Softens the blow.

I'd be furious if I was a Saints member.

Surely there is a bit more to it. An internal cultural report or a whistleblower claim from a player or staff.

Otherwise, I don't get it.

Simon Lethlean should be shown the door too, the trouble is another door would open for him at AFL house.

An employment lawyer would have a field day sueing the Saints over this. How can they can sign him for 2 years only a few months back and Ratten only get 6 months wages.
Can almost guarantee that the AFL would be covering the remaining 18 months to avoid the Saints or the AFL being dragged through court and the negative publicity that comes with ruining peoples lives due to incompetent club management.

Protected species. Apparently quite a smart fella but never worked in actual list management at club level until Gil placed him there in the boys club protection racket.

Max King will be spewing that he signed on until 2026. Brother Ben won't want to go there, and is contracted till 2024. Get to work Blair.

He’s been there as GM for 2 coach sackings in 4 years but somehow he’s secure.
