I look at Rance and Jack as VCs and then I think back to little things I noticed about Brett in the same role. Like telling everyone on the Footy Show “Richmond don’t win without me” behind the scenes every week (which they’d repeat on the air). Does anyone else perceive greater sporting character flaws in hindsight? We can be easily blinded by talent.

That was never right anyway. The whole "Richmond can't win without Deledio" thing was a coincidence which masked the real "thing." Richmond couldn't win WITH Hampson playing. The whole 2016 season alone is evidence of this. That was the real "thing."

True dat. Since Hammer has come to us we are under 40% win ratio when he plays and just on 70% when he don't.

I'd say 2014 is the truest test where most other variables stayed constant. First half of year Hammer plays 3 wins -10 losses, second half Ivvy, 9 wins in a row.

Shows how happy we were to show him the door.
Is it a coincidence that team harmony became such a vital ingredient as soon as he walked?

Actually it is a little bit ambiguous... could be 50K per year for 3 years
here is the relevant part of the article
https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/giants-star-toby-greene-playing-for-half-price-next-year-20180622-p4zn38.html

The Giants say they have been helped to keep the core players by the sacrifice of a number of players. They have been assisted, too, by the fact that Richmond is paying upwards of $150,000 of Brett Deledio's contract over a three-year period and that the Bulldogs have paid a portion of Ryan Griffen's contract when he was traded for Tom Boyd.

So we are clear of that salary at the end of next year.
Or earlier if he retires.

Even with the 150K we pay to the Giants we probably are close to in front money wise when you consider what we would be paying Lids if he was still with us, compared to what we pay Nank and Caddy.

And especially if it's worked out per game played by Lids.
BTW - I saw that in the paper today and it didn't say but I'm assuming the (upwards of) $150,000 figure is the total over three years rather than per year.
Is that correct?

When you consider that Lids took a pay cut to go to the Giants, it's a double whammy for him with us winning the premiership.

I took it as over 3 years.

I have often thought the same thing Zgod.

Come on.
Think of the footy romance of him back and playing in next years grand final.
The ticket parade, the book, the movie.

I think the only time Deledio will make an appearance at the GF will be in the back of a ute being driven around the boundary.

Done his left calf.

Would have to be season over, and quite possibly career. Has had no luck the last few years of his career.

Amazing for a player that was so durable at the start of his career has become so fragile.
