Brett Deledio (merged)

Lids was always one of my favourites, it's a great pity that his body is now letting him down.

Good luck Brett, hope you're able to get back on the field.

Thanks for all the great games you played for us.

Very good player for the Tigers.
Just never really warmed to him as a person.
I know he was devastated when he missed out on the captaincy to Cotchin.
The 2017 premiership will gnaw in his guts for some time coming.

Amazing for a player that was so durable at the start of his career has become so fragile.

Not that amazing to me. Had significant soft tissue injury woes at the Tigers in latter years and beyond 30yo it doesn't usually get much better. Very tough sport is AFL at the top level.

Issues in what way?

Richo often made jokes that Lids basically hated dealing with supporters and gave them nothing if he was forced to interact with them. This extended to players of lesser ability or who didn’t prepare for the game to his standard. Instead of bringing them along he would leave them behind.

Reason why they overlooked Lids at the peak of his powers for a 22yr old Cotchy as captain. That said he was a damn fine player for the Tigers

great player for us but his ego got in the road of a few things, even after he left.

A much younger lids would’ve fitted into this team beautifully with his pace and elite skills ,

Wrong place wrong time

Bang on kiwi.... skills, game and culture would have clicked.
Damn shame, but that's footy.... he can chat to Richo about it at reunions...

Apparently the GWS media team posted an Instagram pic of an injured and dejected Deledio sitting on the bench with a faraway look with the caption “When you can’t decide what to eat”

Lids replied “Ridiculous. Not one bit funny”. The post was removed.

Lids is right too. Career threatening injury, and they're making a joke about it.

Even if Lids could somehow get back for the latter finals, surely they couldn't risk him could they?

That’s incredible.

I am lead to believe him and Chaplin were major issues for young players

I was reading through a pictorial of the 2017 premiership on the weekend and saw 2 photos of Richmond players celebrating after the GF with former players in Chaplin and Foley. These along with Lids and (heaven forbid) even Newman were part of the journey (along with many others I'm sure) to get to where we are and it makes you think how cut throat this business really is.

I read it was the AFL's social media team; not GWS.

They tried that last year, left out Devon Smith and played a half fit Stevie J and Deledio.
