I have heard something very different.
He said it in a recent interview; couldn’t be interpreted any other way, he said exactly that

I can't find anything wrong with this at all. What did you expect him to say " If we meet I hope they win "???LeeToRainesToRoach said:Can't link to this as it's on the AFL site. Google "Tigers' return to finals brings smile to Deledio" if interested.
"I'm just rapt for my close mates and the people I know involved at the club. It's great they get to taste finals again. I'm up here at a new club and we're in the same position, in the top four, and have given ourselves a double chance, which is great. If we meet, may the best team win."
Seems he was happy for his ex-teammates to play finals... just as long as they didn't win!

Tigerdangerous said:I’m of the school of thought that Deledio, whilst being a better than average footballer, was ultimately no good for the playing group. His “me first” mentality was never backed up with dominant performances in big games including the finals he played in. We all know he went missing too often and we all know the opposition knew this part of his game – never cared for the rough stuff did Deledio. And clearly the oppositions exploited this considerable flaw in his game.
The Tigers won a flag without his presence and did so with every player contributing and leaving their egos in the club rooms. Deledio’s ego would have been a hindrance had he stayed on at Richmond in 2017.
I also don’t buy into the argument of him being magnanimous towards the Tigers in pursuing, for a fair chunk of the 2016 season, his departure from Punt road. Quite rightly he was pursing the best option for Deledio and quite rightly the club didn’t get in the way. He was never going to fit into the 2017 Tiger mindset that delivered the premiership.

The players looked that way in the final game of 2016, too. Many of the comments here when Lids left were along the lines of 'We couldn't deliver the success he wanted, so he sought it elsewhere and good luck to him.'Tony Braxton-Hicks said:To be fair we were all p!ssed off with the club in 2016.

We were basically 2.8 times more likely to win when he was in the team.
The minute he's gone we win the flag.
Prestia, Caddy, Nankervis (and Balme?) aside, those are remarkable stats.

year of the tiger said:I also thought he missed more games than that. Is that correct?
LeeToRainesToRoach said:Only missed 24. Missed 4 games in his first nine years 2005-13, then 4, 5 & 11 in his last three years. Was the youngest Richmond player to reach 40 games, and for most numbers after that up to his final Richmond tally of 243 (headed here and there by Matthew Knights, Bryan Wood and Allan Edwards).
year of the tiger said:I underestimated his durability, that's a pretty amazing run and this also highlights the bad run he had this year. The games he missed this year almost doubled the games he missed over his entire career
