The decision Lids made will stay with him for the rest of his life. He no doubt regrets it and it’ll sting every time it’s mentioned, which it will be whenever he meets a Tigers supporter or he’s mentioned in the media. For life.

No need to bag him really, doubt we could add any more misery to what he’s got to endure.

If he didn't have time or like the fans then he certainly won't like them now.

;D

I think it's very ordinary the way he is being attacked by some, not just on here. There are lots of posts, tweets etc that are made on the assumption that he was some sort of big headed knob hated by his teammates and these statements are made with no knowledge whatsoever other than what they have heard or what they have read on some fansite

I really have no idea except for a few things

1. I have spoken directly to a senior Richmond player and he certainly does not subscribe to that opinion. That is a sample of 1 which I freely admit is not representative
2. That's not what Alex Rance said on SEN about him
3. He was voted by his peers to be VC of the club on a few occasions

That's all I know but what I do also know is that he is a 243 game player who won our b&F twice, was twice AA, was vice captain and played some terrific footy for the tigers. That's the way I see him. He is also a human being and the way he felt after the GF sounded pretty human to me!!

:clapping :clapping :clapping

A lot of strong opinions posted without evidence and hatred formed from a few snippets here and there.

Think the reunions that he worn be invited to will be enough..

Wowee.

I didn't pick and choose posts if that's what you're implying. Those are posts off two consecutive pages 12 months back. EXACTLY what you suggested I look at.

Again you've totally misinterpreted what I said. I never said there weren't people who were congratulating Deledio so I don't know why you needed to prove that to me. I said look back 12 months to the many who WERE critical of Deledio.

I dont feel ashamed one tiny bit. Carlton finished 16th , we finished 1st.

Sorry I don't know what results have to do with showing people respect. Historically some of the best sports people in the world have tremendous respect for others in success or defeat.

You said the attitude of posters towards Deledio on here 12 months ago sucked. Again, having looked back like you suggested, I can't see who you keep referring to.

Well I think it's odd and Deledio has said a few odd things over the years, but I'm not attacking him.

"I'm not in this game to scratch around with the turkeys."

Richmond Turkeys. 2017 premiers.

Well I think you've missed the context of his statement. His point in that comment is that he wants the ultimate success. In that article he doesn't believe he is going anywhere. So I'm not sure how you relate that statement to having a go at the Tigers.

Correct. There are many negative posts at the time once it was known he was leaving. Also on Facebook and it has been on-going ever since, all the way through the season, people gleefully basking in his injuries and lack of performance. I really can't see why you are even arguing this point.

Haha hows the backdown. You argued it, then couldn't substantiate it, mate.

Don't confuse what must have been an extremely small minority, for the majority.

I don't think so. When it was put to him he'd met with North he said it was "hearsay and rumour". Hearsay and rumour it may have been, but his lack of a denial says he had one foot out the door. Also said he backed Hardwick's expectation to return to the finals in 2017. Lots of smoke and shadows behind the windows.

Loved Lids at Richmond, one of my favourite Tigers ever and hope some of these anecdotes (e.g. the McKenzie one) aren't true.

No backdowns, all there in black and white, from the time he moved to GWS, throughout the whole of this season, plenty of derogatory remarks, on here and Facebook and other forums, about Lids a multiple B&F winner and life member of the Tigers. And continuing on as we speak. No point continuing this argument whilst you are in your bubble world.

Different perspectives will always provide different views. I don't really care for all the 'anecdotes'. All I know is Deledio was a great player at the Tigers, a multiple B&F winner, life member and endured a totally rubbish team for most of his career. He could have easily left for better pastures. He deserves respect based on his achievements, not derision based on rumours and innuendo.

Firstly I find that fairly hard to swallow (by the way the players name was Chaplin, Chapman played for Geelong and Essendon), secondly from what I've heard Reece had issues with depression when we drafted him. It was why, despite his physical attributes, he went so late in the draft.
Lids may have had issues with certain players, I doubt there's a player in the league (maybe Bob Murphy) who is universally and unreservedly liked by all of his team mates.

Even then, there are some that don't buy into the Bob love fest (Akermanis for one. Not saying Aker is on the side of right or wrong, but just highlighting your point)

You've backed away and changed the narrative to recent posts and facebook, from PRE and 12 months ago.

That's fine. Just understand that 12 months ago Deledio's departure had a very similar reception to Gibbs. There was a lot of love there and there still is.

I hate seeing how he is discussed by some on various platforms now, however theres still a lot of good wishes from a lot of Tiger supporters.

Can't link to this as it's on the AFL site. Google "Tigers' return to finals brings smile to Deledio" if interested.

"I'm just rapt for my close mates and the people I know involved at the club. It's great they get to taste finals again. I'm up here at a new club and we're in the same position, in the top four, and have given ourselves a double chance, which is great. If we meet, may the best team win."

Seems he was happy for his ex-teammates to play finals... just as long as they didn't win!

No I haven't. I said go back 12 months as an example, not that it only happened 12 months ago. And no I never said there wasn't some love as well, I've never disagreed with this comment, but that there was also a fair share of negative comments as well, which there is. Far more than I've seen with Gibbs. Anyway we're going around in circles. This conversation between you and I has already had far to much unimportant air time.

The fact that he doesn't regret moving, but wont congratulate former team mates says a lot about Lids as a person.

I've lost a heap of respect for the guy.

And how do you know this?

I have heard something very different.
