If you don't feel for Lids you ain't got a heart. Week after week, year after year, for more than a decade, he turned up, got tagged, and was one of our best 2 or 3 players. He would have been shattered, and I completely understand.

IMO, the missing link in our premiership team.

The really sad thing is - all things being equal with his injuries for the year - Lids would have been too underdone to get into the GF side. In a period when so many of our draft picks were complete shyte Lids was everything that was written on the box.

Romance Lids gets a medallion but in reality he would have been crying with Richo.

I think you're right, Brett.

We got a draft pick for a bloke with maybe 20 games in him. The deal was v good for RFC, spooker.

No question, Jack. And I suspect Lids went thinking it would be a win for both parties. You'd have to be made of stone not to feel for the guy.

That's the way i look at it.

That Number 1 draft pick is still giving to the club. I feel for Lids, he's an ok bloke but the other side to this is that the Lids running around at the end of last season, hampered as he was / is, wouldn't have been in our best 22 for the GF.

That would have been a greater tragedy, having to tell a fine servant like him on the Thursday night before the GF that he'd be watching from the stands.

That’s prob why it hurt so much to hear he cgaf after we won the flag

I think it’s different as they have finished playing. While Lids went searching for a flag and would have felt pain with us being better without him.
Indeed they’ve finished playing however they both have senior roles with rival clubs

Yeah definite hurtin. Mostly for his missed opportunities and himself but thats just human

If he was a few years younger , he would’ve been sensational running around in the 2017 team ,

Missed the boat , that’s life

Deledio's is the ultimate in bad luck in the history of the game in terms of changing clubs.
Number one draft pick to a basket case club.
Could have written his own ticket to go anywhere for 12 extremely loyal years.
Finally gives it up after the club seemed to have reached its own "peak" of sorts in 2013-14-15 and drops back to 13th in 2016 - depths which would require a record breaking rise to win the flag.
Goes to a club knee deep in premiership window.
Doesn't even make the GF and loses the PF to the club he left, which goes on to win the flag.
And somehow I think that even if he were to eventually get a premiership at GWS, it will be somewhat hollow for him.

Having said all that, he still could have been a bit more gracious in the immediate aftermath.

Could have been worse - Richmond could have beaten GWS in the Grand Final

It’s a cold and nasty world now football.

Trading out a footballer at the right time is an art form in human slavery.

Couldn’t have traded Lids at a better time.

But it still feels dirty. And we did everything we should’ve.

Meh. I'm in 2 minds. I loved the guy when he played for us. But if you believe the rumours, he was a bit of a cancer at the club. Would we have won in 2017 had we stayed? that's subjective. If we missed the 2018 GF and GWS were in it, would I go for them for Lids? not a chance in hell. I don't feel very sympathetic right now, but maybe I'll mellow in a few years. either way, he has a fellow top 3 2004 draftee to share his war stories with (Ryan Griffin).

I don't know why clubs are trading for the Delideo, Gibbs, Griffin of this world. 29 year olds with very limited games left in them.

Because of Brian Lake and Shaun Burgoyne. However for every masterstroke experienced player that gets traded for, yeah, there is 20 dud trades.
