Pulled this from the votes thread. No having a go bob, but what more are you looking for at this stage?

Harder in and around the contests, workrate to lift to make the next contest, after he disposes the ball he needs to gut run to make the next one. Doesn't do it constantly enough.

I like Deledio, and generally he is a slow starter in seasons, but I expect more from him because he is capable of more. I honestly think he can be a top 10 player in the league, thats how much talent he has, just want him to mentally switch on to that fact. Mind you, it's not all his fault, he is playing under an incompetent coach.

Also when he went missing which, he is human and will not always be involved, I want him to lay a good tackle or bump or smother or something so even in his quiet patches he is still in their doing something, that will take him up a level. At the minute, when Lids goes missing you need to send the search party out to find him.

Fair enough. It's not like he goes missing that often though is it?

Agree with you and bunnerz about the 1%ers. For me that's the only thing that really needs to improve for him.

Given he's inside the top 20 for average touches and is easily in the top 5 for quality of each disposal, how far outside the top 10 would you have him right now?

I'd also say he's as hard at it as many of the leading onballers. His numbers are starting to stack up pretty well in terms of winning first use and clearances which is something he wasn't doing at all not much more than 12-18 months ago. He's also copping tags fairly regularly simply because he's our most dangerous player aside from maybe Richo. It's not like he has Bartel and Corey or Gibbs and Judd to take some of the attention.

you fools!!!!

This is contributing to the discussion is it?

Re: Brett Deledio

Deledio's biggest problem is that he goes missing when the other team has momentum (like quite a few Tiger players). If he can sort that part of his game out he will certainly be a very good player.

Pretty often, not a heap but as I stated, when he does go missing, he really does.

Probably his biggest weakness at the moment. He has it in him to be better in these areas yet sometimes simply refuses to do them.

Stats are good for him, but he is definitely not in the top 10 players in the league, probably in the top 40 I would say at this stage.

I agree and thus said it isn't all his fault with the way the set ups are with our team. Look I like Deledio, think he is one of the best talents that have walked into Punt Road, and has a work ethic in training to match his talents, but he can be Gary Ablett or Chris Judd type talent, no doubt about it and yet isn't. Both these players have the ability to win their own ball through will and determination when the chips are down (case in point Ablett yesterday) and Deledio can do that but hasn't consistantly to win a match. I'm expecting him and waiting for him to do so. He can he is good enough.

Re: Brett Deledio

I'd say his elite disposal would make him a top 25 player already (nitpicking I know), otherwise I agree with all that. The good part is he hasn't even turned 22 yet and should keep improving for a while.

Damn straight and that's why it is now while he is still developing that we (the club) still make sure he doesn't drift into bad habits and develop his weaknesses so that by his peak of 25 - 30 he is the all round of player that he can be.

In my opinion he can be by his peak age, the best all round player in the AFL. But he has to want it and work on his deficiencies.

Damn right TB, well said....thought he was terrific last night, broke the lines gave us good run and really muscled his way out packs to clear the ball out, u could see the will and want to just take the game on and that was most pleasing to see....
Again in the top 3 for hard ball gets with foley 10, tuck 13 and lids & white 9 each.

As blighty said to hit jack lace out from 60 mtrs is just so skilful...totally deserved his BOG, for me most importantly was him breaking the lines and giving us run and carry plus hitting targets at will...

What pivves me off is when he has a quiet game posters like U2tigers who jump on and have a dig at him but when he plays well no where to be seen, i mean even against the cats with ling on him he had 31 disposals BOG in the papers and he and richo both sharing the votes on PRE but U2tigers not even giving him a vote, thats why i cannot take anything he says seriously, i cant respect posters who attack a player but when has a great game or even a very good game not even acknowledge him whatsoever...

Of late ive been critical of jacksons disposal and mcmahon too but last night even though they still made some blunders they played good games and deserved recogniton for that...whitey had one of his worst games last week V the dees but bounced back last night...

Against the dogs lids spent majority of the 2nd term on the bench with the head/eye clash, finished with 16 possies (over 3 qtrs) but everyone of those possies were bloody elite.

Melbourne game (23 possies did ok) admittingly slow first half but very good 2nd half and took em on and think he took that attitude from the 2nd half of last week into last nights game...

Malcolm Blight hit it on the head perfectly Lids was the game breaker last night with his run and elite disposal which earnt him BOG.

Re: Brett Deledio

Well I was about to give Lids a bagging after a couple of incidents in the first quarter where I thought he didn't look like he wanted to work hard for his mates, but I am happy to sit here and eat my humble pie. Thought it was a great game by Lids last night. Subject to a heavy tag and really turned the game around with hard running, hard tackling and great disposal. This is what Lids needs to do regularly. We all know he is capable and I think last night he went a long way to conviincing himself he can shake taggers through hard work, and it was his willingness to work hard that won me just when I thought he was going to drop his bundle.

Well done lids :clap

too right gussy, Harding was sticking to him like glue, Harding aint no slouch with his running and it was good to see lids out run him and work harder around the packs to win his ball...

Blighty also said after the game lids possessions weren’t easy possies worked hard for em....

Re: Brett Deledio

I have been critical of Brett this year but I was a good game from him last night.

He did a lot of thing I have been wanting to see all year. He really took them on and used his unmatched pace to run through the middle and deliver with his elite skills. I still miss he occasional Torps he did so well in the first few years...........BRING BACK THE TORP!!!

Good to see in todays HUN the tigers are in negotiation for a new contract with Brett and both parties are keen to get it done. Brett is one of those very important players for Richmonds future, and we need to sign him up before the Gold Coast come looking.

Chimp? :-\

Big call based on only a handfull of games. That has to be a potential/expectation call rather than actual performance at this stage.
