*smile*ing oath im going to shoot u down, he has improved every year since his draft of 04'...dont have to convince you, his output every year has taken him to his breakout year in 08' which as we all know won him the tigers B&F, ave 25 possies a game, kicked 28 goals, was in the top 20 odd for most disposals in the competition, top 3 in hard ball gets at richmond and after RD 1 which i agree was an ave game but you come out with this weak post....i expect more if he's so good...so who did better than lids last year from these other so called kids....

U2, its 1 game and pretty much our whole team played badly...i havent forgotten ur posts of 2008 when week after week Lids was in the best players in the papers, TV, radio and most on PRE for player votes and by memory u hardly ever gave him votes so im going to take ur post with a grain of salt but it wont stop me from telling you like it really is...he will get better and better like most good players do, he's a star but the next step up for this 21 yr old is to be a super star it might be by years end it might be by next year but he has all the tools and the desire to be a super star...

fair enough - I know hes got what it takees - I know hes more skillful than pretty much everyone else.

Hes good - But selfish me wants more - and I still stand by hes overhyped on here for what hes done so far.

My opinion on a lot of players differs to others. I stand by my opinion.

mate doesnt matter if it was you or another poster as i have nothing against anyone on this site but i do get annoyed when things are said about players which statistically speaking are not correct...

Of course ur entitled to your opinion but i disagree on all points well not every point i do agree with you hes more skillful than pretty much everyone else...
U2 he aint over hyped on this site at all posters just say it like they see it but not you, 99% couldnt be wrong could they? Uve been on this site a long time and u should know that the people on this site if a player is not performing consistently or hasnt improved to a top 5 in a B&F for a top 10 draft pick then the folk here will savage any player that hasnt come on as expected...

I mean how do u bag a guy with these stat....2008 tigers B&F, ave 25 possies a game, kicked 28 goals, was in the top 20 odd for most disposals in the competition and top 3 in hard ball gets at richmond...

you speak a lot of sense.

and its hard for me to argue - I just can't shake it.

You know when I watch a Tigers Game - and then see the stats at the end and see him with those 25 odd disposals - and so many times have I gone " wow that many" - it surprises me a fair bit - maybe hes just not damaging enough for mine to take notice of all those disposals.

The hard ball get stats you brought up - well that does surprise me. I'm not huge for stats - I lokk at what my eyes see. and I want more from him.

I don't mean to *smile* you off, but just from what I see watching games I usually find others I think contribute more each game.

You know - I knew my post would get shot down, but thats just it - no one has convinced me yet hes as damaging and good as we make him out.

Re: Brett Deledio

Delidio is a man now and if he wants to spoken about in the same breath as players such as Hird, Judd and Cousins, he has to lead from the front. No ifs, no buts, no 'players aren't blocking for him' - he has to earn the players blocking for him. People in this thread are throwing around the threat of him going to another club - well, if he doesn't step up and stamp himself on the game and just hangs around down back giving short passes to opposition players then he isn't giving us any value, so might as well go.

Re: Brett Deledio

That new AFL commercial has stamped Lids as the king of the 1 metre handball. Is that his best asset? :theyareontome

Like that stat means anything christ even my nanna would make top 6 hard ball gets at the RFC.

Lids for all his quality still has a few gears to up for mine.

Love the kid and as a prospective captain i wanna see more sustained impact from him.

Yes there are things he still needs to improve (what player doesn't) but these types of posts are pretty tough on Lids despite his poor game the other night.

He'd be an absolute star in any top 8 side and I vouch if you offer him up there will be 15 teams looking to sign him.

If you want to point the finger, point it squarely at the seniors over 30.
Not at a 21 year old who's just won our B&F who we're expecting to carry 4/5ths of this team on his back.

We need to get better players around him.

Good post Totsies. Just a bad game by him last week. He'll be ok and come back.

I'm rarely harsh on players, and am certainly not on of the 'everyone is a dud' posters. I'm harsh on Lids for that game because he actually has what it takes. Tough love. Expecting him to carry 4/5ths of the team is par for the course, Hird carried at least that much in his twilight when he would be barely fit to run, let alone play. If he wants to be our Hird, then that is what he has to do.

How old/experienced was Hird when he was doing that mld?
Jimmy had plenty of off days particularly when younger too.

Talk of trading him off is madness.

Re: Brett Deledio

Quite happy for him to have some poor early games would then make him an attractive supercoach pickup!

I'm not talking of trading him. I'm saying to people intimating that he will take his bat and ball, then if that is the sort of person he is there is nothing we can do.

Lid's is a winner.
Last week will have stung, don't think he's the type to put in another bad one.

My word he is oldie and ur right he didn’t put in another ave game...

There were posters last week who were happy to have a go at lids and sure it was an ave game but gee just rapt for him to come out today and play a great game...

That 3rd Qtr his energy and desire to win the ball was just fantastic...The whole midfield just got on top and ran in waves...

One thing that made me happy was Lids really made the play and created space for others...A lot of times when he handballed off i saw him at least attempt a block or shepherd which typically as a team we dont do a lot off...
His 30 disposals i dont recall one turn over....

Yep. Thought Brett really stood tall today and wouldn't have looked out of place in the starting midfield for the Geelong Cats.
One of his better efforts.
Very pleasing to see him bounce back hard. :)
