The info that Gaz was trying to get back to Geelong during trade week explains Geelongs weird half-arse approach to getting Lids. Their mind wasn't completely on the job.

They got special dispensation to spend next year's first rounder on Zac Tuohy.

Replaced Caddy with Touhy and have no draft picks. (Except the one we gave them.) And turned down Deledio. They're stoned.

Reasonable explanation. What it started out Lids and 27 for Caddy, ended up Lids, 24, (another late pick?), for Caddy, '17 first round, '17 third round. Its confusing but something like that. Bottom line, in one way, is Geelong were lowballing us to the tune of a first round pick!

nothing worse then being lowballed

We asked for buggery. They offered us aggravated rape. And we settled somewhere in between. Win win.

You’re entitled to your opinion and it seems you are easily pleased when it comes to how you assess a superstar. My opinion of what makes a superstar is very different. Over 12 years at the Tigers many here see Deledio through rose-coloured glasses. I don’t and never did. He played many more games where he just disappeared. Too many in my opinion and he was as soft as butter.

Great coaches move these sorts of players on and get something like grit and toughness in return; consistency at attacking the ball and bringing team mates into the game. Not cameo performances every few weeks or so – 12 seasons with the Tigers and you can count on one hand great 4 quarter games by Deledio. As for not understanding how a coach building a premiership side would let a Deledio go for a footballer who doesn’t go missing when the chips are down – that’s your problem if you cannot grasp that simple concept.

His gone and I hope his departure gives opportunity to more committed players at the Tigers, who present week in, week out no matter what opposition coaches throw at them. Skill alone, occasionally displayed, does not make a superstar of the AFL.

Three of the top four teams chased him, including the premiers. They're not all fools, are they?

Sir Tiger and Sir Bill ,Related ?, hmm think so , Deledio was sitting in the stands for the majority of the year while telling his bloody manager , to go find me a better place to play. The bloke wasn't interested in helping the guys by playing with them , was looking after his own interests , great vice captain he turned out to be , telling the boys to hang in there and bailing out mid June .. hmm you go figure Sir .!!!

I've looked up the members register and there is no Sir Bill. Care to elaborate or am I missing the joke ??

Should have got rid of Grigg also. Another whinger behind the scenes like his mate. No surprise that hacks like Conca, Hoult and *smile* are getting multi year deals and Frigg only gets 1.

This is definitely not true. Crazy how people just make stuff up and guess.

Well, not really crazy. This is the anonymous interweb

My boys in particular one that has number three on all his jumpers are devastated by the news Lids is gone but with our additions and some smart campaigning from me that a club is bigger than any individual and the tigers have recruited well with players this year and extra draft picks next year where we might find the next Riewoldt (the other wears no 8 on his back) they are now excited by the trading of Lids. I pray Hardwick changes the gameplan because if he does and we have some luck I think we play finals and win some, can't suggest we win the flag though as I can't see anyone beating GWS for the flag next year GO TIGERS
I agree with you more broadly that no individual is greater than the club, however I make one exception.

My kids still wear No.12 & "Richo" written on their jumpers. Forever timeless. ;D

I still occasionally get randomly struck by a deep shock and sadness that he no longer plays.

Love keyboard warriors. You're just talking utter cr@p. Seen many 4 quarter games by Deledio. Seen plenty of toughness. Anyone getting through 12 years at the Tigers has to have that. He would bring more players into the game than anyone else as he had sublime skills and decision-making ability. Deledio is a massive acquisition for GWS, the only real risk are his recent spate of injuries.

Is it just? I beg to differ

You can beg whatever you want but it still doesnt change the fact it is untrue. Feel free however to just guess and take a stab in the dark. Most do!

You wouldn’t be Deledio’s love child by any chance would you? Ever heard of the facts; you know those annoying things that get in the way of telling stories that suit your arguments? Facts are your super hero footballer never brought the Tigers anywhere near a premiership despite the fact you believe him to be some sort of footballing God.

Fact is Deledio played too often within an impressive comfort zone and was never a leader of his team like a Hodge. Good skills; too easily satisfied with his pay cheque and his status at a club that for many years has been going nowhere. Fact – Deledio never changed that or the mediocre culture at Punt Road. I don’t give a flying #@#%@ about who was chasing him or where he has ended up; as I wrote previously I hope his departure opens up opportunities for different players to play for the Tigers who don’t fade in and out of games and who can lead from the coal-face. Deledio is not one of those footballers.

No one is having trouble grasping any concept btw. The statement that Lids always went missing in big games is just not true so there is nothing to grasp.

Deledio only went "missing" in the biggest of matches because our opposition knew he was the most dangerous player in the Richmond side and if he was blanketed there would be no one else capable of stepping up - the rest of the AFL knew this and it was almost the guaranteed method of ensuring a victory over Richmond if you could manage it.

In all of the recent finals we played our opponents were able to achieve it and the outcomes were there for all of us to see. In many of the matches against more evenly matched opposition over Deledio's career he was the difference between winning and losing.

If you want to evaluate Deledio's worth you simply look at every goal scoring opportunity we have and trace back the events on the field that led to that opportunity, a lot of the time you will see Deledio involved getting a good disposal to a team-mate or gaining possession through an interception or putting on a block at just the right time to allow someone time and space - in other words doing things that were real value to the team rather than racking up 40 possession stats where 75% are totally useless but impress fools who don't understand football.

Hear hear. Lids will slaughter them (if fit) up there. It'll come in like bullets and lasers and those vices....clunk.
