Not at all moved by this assessment of Deledio. He played soft, over many years and in very poor sides never, never stood up as a leader to push our sides across the line to win close games and be seen as a leader to follow. His skill set was not matched by his selfish personality and weak heart. He played most of career at the Tigers in a comfort zone, that with a better side around him and coaches who demand the best from their players probably would have been moved on long before now.

You simply cannot build premiership sides around these types and the fact he’s no longer a Tiger is proof of this reality. A question – the best year for Deledio in a Brownlow was when? He’d been cruising for far too long in the yellow and black.

Rubbish. He's a rolled-gold superstar and it's very disappointing that he felt he had to leave and needed a new start. Will make us look like chumps when we play GWS next year. Will end up playing forward and kicking 40+ goals, then we'l be asking ourselves why he couldn't have played that role for us. Fair dinkum..

Oh and "You simply cannot build premiership sides around these types and the fact he’s no longer a Tiger is proof of this reality", you realise that sentence makes absolutely no sense at all ? So we're on our way to building a premiership side now that Lids has gone. Shows you how *smile* *smile* Geelong and the Bulldogs are at building premiership sides given they both wanted him as well, and next year's premiership side got him.

Tigerdangerous your right on Deledio, played for himself and has taken the easy way out now..
Oh Sir Bill IF Geelong and the Bulldogs REALLY wanted Lids they would have got him any which way ..
Im glad Lids is gone bet he doesnt see out his contract ...

unbelievable!! heard from a source at the club.....amazing the rubbish that is being thrown about.

No rubbish....but that's ok....my mistake was to place it on the wrong board! The information was vindicated by his pea hearted excuse that he needed a fresh start. Had an opportunity to lead and he made a decision that reflected an attitude that it was all to hard.

Need to get rid of all disingenuous people with this soft attitude. Good luck Brett ::)

Surprise surpirse, another gutfull stab in the back to Lids :rofl You're so *smile* obvious..

Sir Bill :headscratch

and btw Geelong REALLY wanted him (hope the All Caps emphasises the point for you), but couldn't afford him or arrange a suitable trade.

You’re entitled to your opinion and it seems you are easily pleased when it comes to how you assess a superstar. My opinion of what makes a superstar is very different. Over 12 years at the Tigers many here see Deledio through rose-coloured glasses. I don’t and never did. He played many more games where he just disappeared. Too many in my opinion and he was as soft as butter.

Great coaches move these sorts of players on and get something like grit and toughness in return; consistency at attacking the ball and bringing team mates into the game. Not cameo performances every few weeks or so – 12 seasons with the Tigers and you can count on one hand great 4 quarter games by Deledio. As for not understanding how a coach building a premiership side would let a Deledio go for a footballer who doesn’t go missing when the chips are down – that’s your problem if you cannot grasp that simple concept.

His gone and I hope his departure gives opportunity to more committed players at the Tigers, who present week in, week out no matter what opposition coaches throw at them. Skill alone, occasionally displayed, does not make a superstar of the AFL.

I wish I could access a superstar, but putting that aside...

So we've now decided to build a premiership side and letting Lids go is the first step, awesome.. and replaced him with player who doesn't go missing when the chips are down - who might be ??

Not scorned, just can't cop the criticism of Lids that's all. I'm as darkside as anyone else with the year we've just had and Bernie still around. Anyway, time for bed..

Wasn't aiming for you ST.

I was actually referring to the "just love and support our boys" cheersquad who go Hulk Hogan on those same players if they disobey the 'borg'.

Sir Tiger and Sir Bill ,Related ?, hmm think so , Deledio was sitting in the stands for the majority of the year while telling his bloody manager , to go find me a better place to play. The bloke wasn't interested in helping the guys by playing with them , was looking after his own interests , great vice captain he turned out to be , telling the boys to hang in there and bailing out mid June .. hmm you go figure Sir .!!!

Just remind yourselves that the only reason he doesn't have at least 5 AA selections is because the team he played for wasn't good enough. Had we been a top side in 08, 09, 10 and 11 he would've made the team, certainly overlooked and instead lesser players form better teams were selected, especially in 10 and 11.

He couldn't win us a premiership by himself. Those saying he didn't do enough are completely delusional, looking for a scapegoat.

Fair enough. I reckon your spot on. Wish him well but sounds like the changeroom will be a better place without him. Rather than a leading teams set up I think the club could use a an ego destroying session. A team devoid of ego's and agendas would be a ravenous beast almost impossible to stop.

Should have got rid of Grigg also. Another whinger behind the scenes like his mate. No surprise that hacks like Conca, Hoult and *smile* are getting multi year deals and Frigg only gets 1.

There are very few superstars, a few running around at any time in the game.

The reality is that week after week Lids played at a very high level and for many years he was remarkably durable and consistent footballer. You only have to look at the reaction of the premiership coach to him going to GWS. Suddenly he wanted to try and get him to the Dogs because he knows what adding a player of Lids' class to the giants list will do.

Noone is having trouble grasping any concept btw. The statement that Lids always went missing in big games is just not true so there is nothing to grasp.

I'd be interested to know how you know that Grigg whinges behind the scenes?

Plenty of whinging about the game plan and dud players by the fans. I can understand why an elite player would get jack of it when facing an entire career without a finals win, having seen many of his predecessors suffer the same fate.

I'm sure Grigg would have been told to explore his options..

The info that Gaz was trying to get back to Geelong during trade week explains Geelongs weird half-arse approach to getting Lids. Their mind wasn't completely on the job.
