Brett Deledio (merged)

Got to feel for him.
The only two coaches he's worked under have been Wallace and Hardwick.
A lesser player would have walked along time ago.

Dont forget Jade Rawlings.

I've watched all matches at least twice.

Deledio one of our best in all 3.

Definitely against Port, leaving him out just shows that you're being salty.

Started well against North but went missing, arguably had a worse game than Cotchin.

Was poor at times opposed to Laidler in the second half v Carlton, and clearly our best against Port.

Brett Deledio is a life member of the Tigers who contributed for 12 years in the best way he could.

He has lived with, benefited from and been dragged down by the Tiger army throughout his entire tenure at the club.

Who of us can really understand what it is to be a top end draft choice playing in the fish bowl of Melbourne, where Richmond spends most of the year on either the front or back pages of the paper.

No doubt as a supporter group we can be a marvellous positive force for our players, but equally we can be a bunch of destructive dim wits.

What does the split personality of supporters actually do to players over such a long period?

None of us would want to work in an environment where you could be put on up on a platform today and pilloried a week later.

The guys got an attack of the Buddy's he wants to start again, be anonymous, be outside the fish bowl looking in for a change. After 12 years good luck to him irrespective of the circumstances he will always be a Tiger

I would think Brett has copped less wrath from Richmond supporters than just about any other player over his career.
Only 759 pages in 12 years on PRE says it all. ;D

And some of that is even vaguely complimentary.

He had a dream run.

Well he's a traitor now so I hope his calf and Achilles issues force him into early retirement round 1 next year.

Type Deledio in the search function and select Advanced then Topic subjects only and there are 7 pages of threads come up.

Harsh.
Wouldn't wish that on anyone.
Professional athlete, professional sport.
Players, like administrators n coaches come and go for various reasons, I'll support the club first second and third then the players that pull on the club's jumper. We don't own them, can't see the point in hating on a player who changes clubs for whatever reason.

Baffling attitude... so what are Prestia, Caddy and Nankervis and what do you wish them ? :)

I am sure it is past your bedtime Broders.

I have always held this sense that Deledio thought he should have been appointed captain before Cotchin ... this was a massive blow to Deledio, in my opinion, but he retained his professionalism and played to the best of his ability, injury permitting.

My vague and unreliable memory of this was that he was dark on himself for not being the leader he could have been at that time and realised he should have and so set himself to be a become a better leader to support Cotchin and to put himself forward as captain if the opportunity ever arose again, or at least be a good vice captain. In this angle, I don't think he was dark on Cotchin. If anything Cotchin gave him some inspiration given Trent's age and maturity.

Having said all this, my recollections come from what I read and I have no sources confirming or telling me otherwise.

Not at all moved by this assessment of Deledio. He played soft, over many years and in very poor sides never, never stood up as a leader to push our sides across the line to win close games and be seen as a leader to follow. His skill set was not matched by his selfish personality and weak heart. He played most of career at the Tigers in a comfort zone, that with a better side around him and coaches who demand the best from their players probably would have been moved on long before now.

You simply cannot build premiership sides around these types and the fact he’s no longer a Tiger is proof of this reality. A question – the best year for Deledio in a Brownlow was when? He’d been cruising for far too long in the yellow and black.

3:31 wasn't bad from the boy.

Laugh out loud Hardwick is seen in the Hawthorn coaches box with 17 seconds to play !!!

There are plenty of times he played very well in winning teams against quality opposition. A couple of games in recent years in Sydney spring to mind, a stellar game against the hawks in 2015. It's just straight out wrong.

As for his personality I can only assume you know him to comment on it, otherwise you are guessing.

The Witness. Some of his greatest work right there.

Did you see Hardwick in the Hawthorn coaches box, he must have been the defensive coach for that comeback to happen
