LOL, Lids has one poor game since the first few rounds last year (ironically) and everyone starts jumping on him. He's won a B&F in a 9th placed team at 20 yo. Everyone has the odd bad game. I any event, he did have 21 possies from memory, not exactly a disaster either.

Not a disaster but if others are going to cop it, he's not immune to criticism either.
He had quite a few costly turnovers which led to Carlton goals and was virtually unsighted in the first half when the heat was on.

To me Lids played like he thought things were just going to happen.

Agreed josey.
Just speculation but maybe he thought having Cousins along side him would make life automatically easier. :headscratch
I dunno but he was well off his normal game.

Anyway it was only one match but I hope this Hird article stings him into action a bit.

You would hope he will take the criticism personally.

Forget about the older guys, they are lost causes. If guys like Lids, Jack and Foley don't stand up and make a stand, buckle in for another 10 years of mediocrity.

Re: Brett Deledio

Seemed scared to put his body on the line! He must take the game on and run the lines.....he does not do that often enough. He must initiate and create far, far more for a player of his supposed talent.

Re: Brett Deledio

No doubt Ling will go to lids if he is in the middle. He needs to show he can mix it with the best and put in a really good performance against one of the best taggers in the league!

ling has towelled lids up before,no shame in that as ling`s the best in the business at stopping gun midfielders but this week is a chance for lids to redeem himself.

he`s not going to beat ling by burrowing under every pack,he can beat him by running off him and having the ball fed out to him by the rest of the team.

lids has a huge pace advantage over ling and he`s the best kick in our team so he must run off ling to make space and our players must look for him and feed him all day.

When you look at our 'game plan' Mopsey, can you see a way for this to eventuate? I agree completely with you on what Lids needs to do but he needs the space/ help from others to accomplish it... oh, and to be given the go ahead to get it heading in the right direction.

Don't think I have ever seen Ling get beaten.

Then we need to protect him ala the Cats do with Jnr and that means SHEPHERD!!
Forget Dan Jackson(or someone else with some steel) tagging someone just tell him to take out Ling at every opportunity and protect Lids.
Problem is the other night I counted on one finger how many times I saw the Tigers ball carrier protected by their team mates and that was Benny Cousins who likely hasn't been infected by Wallet's poorly disciplined team yet.
Crikey it's little wonder our kicks are always seemingly under pressure. it would be so nice for a change to see this squad play as a team as opposed to a bunch of self interested individuals.

I too saw Ben blocking and its the first time I can remember seeing a Richmond player EVER doing it.

I am hoping Ben can teach this a necessary skill while he's at Tigerland

Actually sugar was/is also good at blocking at stoppages for teammates. Not that I don't think he should have retired at end 2008.

your right actually :duh, It's one reason we usually play better when he's in the side, even though he sometimes offers little with the ball! If we could have players who can use it and block as well we'd be a lot better off

Re: Brett Deledio

Shoot me down,

I've said it before also - but looking at his output so far at this club IMO

Lids is over rated/hyped on PRE. He may have the skills.

But no one has convinced me otherwise - he has underperformed IMO.

I may be more critical - but I expect more from him if hes so good - Other kids younger than him do more for there clubs already.

shoot away - but Lids has dissapointed me so far - knowing what he is capable of.

A tad harsh ther u2, he did win and b&f at 21.

It's a lot easier to play as the 3-4th mid like Selwood does or forward pocket like Cyril than be the best player on a team, like Lids was last year.

I know hes got class, but I just don't think hes as damaging - and you may be right - it is harder at the Tiges I suppose than the Geelongs and Hawks.

I just can't shake my feeling he could be better and that we over hype him a bit to much for what he does for us week in week out.

*smile* oath im going to shoot u down, he has improved every year since his draft of 04'...dont have to convince you, his output every year has taken him to his breakout year in 08' which as we all know won him the tigers B&F, ave 25 possies a game, kicked 28 goals, was in the top 20 odd for most disposals in the competition, top 3 in hard ball gets at richmond and after RD 1 which i agree was an ave game but you come out with this weak post....i expect more if he's so good...so who did better than lids last year from these other so called kids....

U2, its 1 game and pretty much our whole team played badly...i havent forgotten ur posts of 2008 when week after week Lids was in the best players in the papers, TV, radio and most on PRE for player votes and by memory u hardly ever gave him votes so im going to take ur post with a grain of salt but it wont stop me from telling you like it really is...he will get better and better like most good players do, he's a star but the next step up for this 21 yr old is to be a super star it might be by years end it might be by next year but he has all the tools and the desire to be a super star...
