Re: Brett Deledio

everyone will pull out of something at some stage of their career kruiser ducking his head looked shocking on thursday night but i would have him in our side tomorrow. what about raine's effort running back with the flight. it was the most courageous act of the night by a mile.

Ridiculous bagging of one of only two class players we have on our list. Lids is fine.

Yep agree. Ignore the fact that for the whole of last season, Lids was our best player with the least number of average clangers and let's concentrate on one game where it appeared the first prize for the game was who could make the most clangers. Lids was still serviceable in one of his worst games for a while. Let's find some other fodder.

For the record, according to pro-stats, Deledio had 7 clangers and 19 possessions, Foley had 15 clangers and 30 possessions, Simmonds 11 and 19, N Brown 8 and 16, Thursfield 6 and 6, and ready for the doozers but hardly surprising McGuane 10 and 14, Jackson 13 clangers and 12 possessions. At the other end White had not one clanger and 23 possessions. His disposal as some have mentioned has improved immensely over time.

Interestingly Carlton had almost as many clangers as the Tigers, but Judd who Jackson was tagging had no clangers and 23 possessions.

Re: Brett Deledio

Deledio certainly has the goods. If I was him I would be thinking of my future when the time comes to sign. He would no doubt seek opinion from his family, a name like Brad Ottens may be used as an example. His mother may say to him that he has busted his chops way too many times with no reward.

I would think Jackson would be in the spotlight as much as any.
Simple fact is we have other viable options to replace him.

Dean Polo.

Jackson is not good enough, it's quite simple. Really never should be in the starting team unless we have an injury crisis.

Re: Brett Deledio

Interesting article in the herald sun about Deledio.

Talk about putting pressue on the guy, but it is so true.

Come Lids......show em what you can do.

Yeah great article
Really liked the end bout getting back to the basics

Jimmy would be a very good coach

Gibbs is one the most balanced & skillful players leysy's seen. The sky is the limit for him in the game.

Sure he pulled out there. Leysy has also seen Lids pull out on the odd occasion. As long as it isn't a habit its clutching at straws to label young lads soft when its a rarity. One piece of footage is hardly evidence of any ongoing issues.

Also not to downgrade Lids as he's a brilliant footballer but Gibbs towelled him in the centenary game last year even though he's a full two years younger.

We have many more who do have a habit of not putting themselves in dangerous situations.

Spot on again Leysy

hey scoop do urself a favour and check out youtube of gibbs "jibbing it" to guess who milne of all people, and its there for all to see and another thing ive backed up what im saying with lids being in the top 3 for hardball gets at richmond and winning the army reserve award...Enough said!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bvXYAazPJnA (still think gibb the jibb is hard at it)

Still think its a...back the front statement....whats amazing is ur post and ive backed up my post with facts do the same before u post back, gee how hard can it be to back up what ur trying to relay back to me...

Admit it didn't look great but the kid oozes class - he may have been trying to gather and avoid all contact, to keep possession and be able to dispose of it rather than take possession and get tackled and know he couldn't get it to a teammate? One instance doesn't make a jib.

Agree on Deledio, definitely not soft.

Certainly was.
Hird obviously rates Lids as much as we do. Here's the relevant extract.

Richo, Joel Bowden and even Brett Deledio will have been through this before, but they are the guys who need to hold up their heads and respond to the criticism in the only way they can -- through their football ability.

Deledio for me is the one.

He is a good player with huge expectations on his shoulders, but it is his next few weeks that are vital to Richmond's short-term future.

Most people expected Richmond to make the eight and Deledio was a massive part of the reason why.

His breakout season last year was terrific, but as good as that was, he needs to take another step this year for the Tigers to reach the heights that were expected of them in the pre-season.

When the times are tough the best players and characters rise to the top.

This is the perfect chance for Deledio to take his standing in the game, and the standing of his club, to another level.

Footy is not a game of individuals, but in a crisis someone needs to take the bit between his teeth and go for it. Deledio has both the ability and passion to do it.

He is not the captain but, at 21, a great month of football could lift the Tigers out of a hole that many are saying will swallow them up.

This will be a tough task for the young star because his record against the Cats is not great.

Throughout his career he has averaged 19.3 disposals a game, in his seven games against the Cats he has averaged just 14.7 possessions.

I would start him in the middle and ask he and Nathan Foley to go head-to-head with the likes of Ablett, Bartel, Selwood and Ling.

Mission impossible maybe, but come Saturday night Deledio will have no illusions about how good he is.

Re: Brett Deledio

Couldnt agree more with Hird....its time for lids to go into the middle and go head to head with the champs of the competition. Not sitting up fwd or a back flank....he, foley and cotchin need to become our core midfield that take us to september.

Re: Brett Deledio

LOL, Lids has one poor game since the first few rounds last year (ironically) and everyone starts jumping on him. He's won a B&F in a 9th placed team at 20 yo. Everyone has the odd bad game. I any event, he did have 21 possies from memory, not exactly a disaster either.

Bingo.

He'll be fine, one of our very few class players that we can build a successful side around.

Re: Brett Deledio

I dont think its the supporters having a crack at Lids, its more the fact that we need a player who is capable, to stand up in times like Thursday night. In my lifetime i dont think ive ever seen a Tiger player be able to do that. SO many times we just roll over and get stood on. Lids played a below average game his 20 possessions were pretty much useless and came late in the match- however, thats not what we are having a go at here. What we are asking is for our gun youngster to say enough is enough, i want to play in the middle 80% of matches now, take on other stars of the comp and show i can mix it with them. We know he can, ALl this hiding away on flanks and pockets is just not good enough anymore - be it his or Wallaces fault i dont know. Unless we get a core group of guys who stand up when their team is getting belted, we will never make september a frequent event. I also think Hirdy was not pointing the figure in a negative way at Lids, but more a constructive way...he believes this kid has got what it takes to lift a team like he used to...i think its a real compliment,

5 years in - its Deledio time.

Re: Brett Deledio

To me Lids played like he thought things were just going to happen. Perhaps too many people have been pumping up his tyres after last year.

I agree totally with Hirds article. The difference between the great and the very good is the ability to take teams with them, especially in difficult circumstances. Think Voss, Hird and Buckley. Is Lids a genuine leader or just a good player at Richmond?

The next month will tell.
