Brett Deledio (merged)

My boys in particular one that has number three on all his jumpers are devastated by the news Lids is gone but with our additions and some smart campaigning from me that a club is bigger than any individual and the tigers have recruited well with players this year and extra draft picks next year where we might find the next Riewoldt (the other wears no 8 on his back) they are now excited by the trading of Lids. I pray Hardwick changes the gameplan because if he does and we have some luck I think we play finals and win some, can't suggest we win the flag though as I can't see anyone beating GWS for the flag next year GO TIGERS

That's pretty harsh. I thought it was a suitable message.

Yes my mistake, I saw it on instegram and it was only half of what RFC send tweeted, the full version was fine

Leysy - I didn't mean to have a go at him he is a great player, i just think and always have that he could have been better

As predicted, Lids football capabilities are certainly taking a turn for the worse since we traded him. ;D

By March-17, he will be marginally better than your name sake

"Hello everyone, From blonde tips and skinny arms to twelve years later and a fresh start. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the RFC for all that they have done for me since I arrived in 2004. I am incredibly grateful for the support, faith and guidance the club has shown in me. Not only developing me into an AFL footballer, but also helping me turn into the person I have become. I've met so many wonderful people at Tigerland over the years, many of which I am proud to call my close friends. To the Tiger faithful, thank you for sticking with me and the club through thick and thin in the time I have been at the club. We have had some ups and downs but there you were, every weekend, cheering on the boys with that famous Tiger roar that always sent chills down my spine whenever we were making a charge at the MCG. While I have decided to have a fresh start, Richmond will always hold a special place in my heart and I will always be forever grateful of the influence the club has had on me. I have always relished a challenge and I can't wait to embark on a new journey with the Giants. I hope the experience will be a successful one, but most importantly, it's a chance for me to learn some new things about our great game from a different perspective. Thanks again, Lids"

You have to be taking the *smile*.

Should have gotten a giant tiger tattoo on his back and neck
That would have said more

He still used the word "we" multiple times, so regardless of moving on, he's still attached mentally.

Yeah, I heard T Cloke on the radio last week and he was similar to BD. Cloke said he,ll always be a Collingwood player, he's played in a flag there, played 12 years there, made friends there.

But for the next 2 years he'll be doing his best for the Western bulldogs.

Probably easy for Cloke to say that as he's got no chance in hell of playing a game in the Dogs jumper.

For me it was never about ability but durability. GWS can afford to float him through 16 games a year, rest him, protect him and not expect him to be in the heat of the contest all the time. We couldn't. We needed him to be top 5 B&F Lids 20 games a year. Brokered a excellent return for a distressed asset that helps both teams. Regardless of what he does at GWS we made the right deal and got above average value.

Always a Tiger and no ill will. Gave his all, did his absolute best and was never truly valued by the footballing community. Nothing but respect for the bloke.

Ummm, we shopped him first.

No, not true old son.

Brett's management made approaches to other club's first, the club got wind of this and then tried to get a deal going.

I know it was good business and I don't blame the club or Brett for doing what was best for each of them, but my heart still says, "Say it ain't so, Joe."

At least playing in that super side, the wider world might finally appreciate what a brilliant footballer we had all these years.

Agree. Thought he was gone after I saw that last Dimma interview on OTC.

Very nice comments by Brett. Personally, I will miss seeing him in yellow and black. When he was played in his preferred position up forward he was very very good for us. Regrettably, our so wise coach had him mostly in the back line which I believe did not suit his style of play.

Good luck at GWS Brett and thanks for the sterling service he gave to our club.

Pretty much how I feel.

I'd say I thought he was maybe a little bit mentally not as resilient as some of the games champs, particularly when put under a tag. However he was a two time All Australian, a B&F winner, and loved the club. Almost every player who's walked on the field has had flaws. Doesn't stop some of them from being champions. Good outcome for the club, and if we don't make the 8, I hope he gets a flag. He certainly hung around long enough when we were *smile*, so he deserves something.

If we had the team around him that could carry the midfield and hbf, Lids would have been one of the greatest CHF of his time. In the Hird category.

Maybe mate, and don't want to doubt your info but if it came from inside the club they will always put it back against the player.

Still think Lids had a lot more footy left in him than seems to be accepted on here but no issue with the trade in the end either. It's decent business and if Clangerfield gets injured it could turn very good.

Defo far better than what was originally mooted with the Cats/Caddy trade.

Quietly hoped the deal wouldn't go through. Potentially a win for the business but a loss for many supporters. History will frown on it if things don't take a turn for the better at Richmond. We have no scope left for mistakes.
