Brett Deledio (merged)

Excuse my ignorance, I've been trying to find an answer on the net without luck.
Can someone tell me how it is that we wound up with Geelong's first rounder next year for Deledio?
Sheesh, imagine if they finish last ... that would almost make up for not having beaten them for a decade.

Geel traded it to Carlton for Touhy deal

Carl on-traded to GWS for Marchbank deal

GWS on-traded to us for Lids deal

disappointed he has gone - what a player - but I'm an unsentimental type and look forward to the Tiges in 2017 without Lids and someone laying the heaviest tackle they can on him.

I'm looking forward to the Hawks vs GWS game as Lids run past Ty V and calls out "Hey DUD !", "Catch me if you can".. meanwhile Ty still doing his star jumps protecting his space

When a legend of the club leaves because he thinks he won't find success here, that is not a clear win.

That's actually a very sad loss.

Correct. The trade may be a win for us considering his recent injuries but the fact he wanted out indicates there is something very wrong at our club. Deledio obviously saw no hope of success here.

The trade is all that counts. You can only count what we got back.

And jumping on the Giants is backing the fav. Every club is tracking behind them.

Deledio wanted out and we got 90%. Compare that to the Jordan Lewis trade.

Wish Lids nothing but the best. And no flag.

Damn Straight. Flatten him. Agree on all points.

That has to be the silliest comment ever. This is what could have happened. Doesn't matter what we thought of it at all. But if Lids was adamant that Geel was the place he wanted to be and they had the salary cap space then it would have been very close to happening (give or takes the picks).

I would also argue that a first rd and a 3rd rd pick for Lids is a clear win no matter how anyone looks at it.

Not really. You argued the result was good because of the earlier offer which is a pretty stupid way of assessing whether a trade was a good one or not. The subsequent posts seem to suggest the jury is out whether, in isolation, the Lids' deal was a good one or not.

Reckon it was more of a case that his ego was bruised when we shopped him around. Tried to call our bluff and we obliged.

Yep ... and one would think that there was something very wrong at the Dogs about 18 months ago.

You are more than welcome to disagree with my opinion. I dont mind at all. Time will always tell what is good and what isnt. But this is a forum where people share their opinion.

No, everyone else expresses opinions. I express facts.

jb you must be a jury of one, the Deledio deal alone was a sensational result.

Brett is now wearing a giants jumper on the rfc site with number listed as 0 - strange, joke or hack? Photo has him with a fine smirk as well. Only on the app it seems.

Plenty on this thread alone don't seem convinced. I think sensational might be a touch OTT.

facts.
1. Lids was happy to go after Round 18.
2. Of our A graders he was the chosen one.
3. Some level of serious player disharmony in the ranks this year.
4. Something had to change.
5. We now have two new young aggressive mids and an aggressive ruckman.

For the record, I still think SOS is a prick though regardless of the impact it has on us.

Off topic here, but I thought it would be fun to remind everyone that we ruined SOS's 300th game by beating them at the G.
A sweet memory right up there with spoiling the Hird/Sheedy love in

(although slightly spoiled when that idiot Spudwanktious made the players form a guard of (dis)honour. What a complete imbecile that man is)
