Poor post but what can i say you have to be one of the most inept posters on PRE, he wouldnt know what a hard play was? thats what u said....in 2008 he was in the top 3 in hard ball gets with foley and tuck being the other 2...Do u know what a hardball get is, its beating ur opponent in a contested situation and if u looked at his stats well i did every week u would see that lids, foley and tuck led the way in this dept...

He also won the army reserve award for most courageous, doesnt that say in itself that he can play hard and not flinch in a contest...

Agree with you here mate. He puts his body on the line whenever its required. He is not Bryce Gibbs FFS. If he was we could all sit here calling him soft.

Re: Brett Deledio

He was so quiet early that I almost forgot he was on the field. I went looking for him and noticed he was being effectively tagged by Heath Scotland. Early frustration seemed to sap his confidence and it was as though a virus was spreading throughout the team. I'm not sure if he was injured, but his kicking was shocking and his decision making in kicking in from full back was unsure and hesitant. I have never seen him so lacking in confidence and this was finally exemplified by his missing an easy goal later in the game.

Brett is a fighter and i have no doubt that he will bounce back with renewed vigour against Geelong.

3aw have got it wrong

Even if he touched it once or twice he was completely blanketed from the game.
I honestly wondered whether he was out there at one point.
Either he was tagged out of it brilliantly by Scotland or his efforts were nowhere near what we have come to expect.
He made basic mistakes that I have not seen from him ever.

Bad start for him. Let's hope his season gets a lot better from here.

i just get annoyed when people make assertions on players which are not true, ok lids had an average game by his standards, 21 possies but calling him soft is just plain wrong....Bryce gibbs on the other hand is soft that we know, classy and skilful though and i actually like him as a player but he needs to put his body on the line and at the moment he doesnt.

oldie yeah he did make some mistakes which was unlike lids but it happens to everyone and sure not the ideal start for lids or the tiges for that matter but i remember last year in the first few rounds u were saying similar about lids and as the season wore on u were praising him, and as we all know he had a great year winning the B&F, very consistent with 25 possies a game, 28 goals and skill level pretty much spot on.

Re: Brett Deledio

Must admit, poor game from Lids down on his usual standards. He needs to have more aggression and attack on the footy and try and get himself into the game. Not saying that he's not hard at it, but he tends to sit back and wait for things to happen. Just like Murphy, Pendlebury etc. this year should be the year that he makes the jump from a good player to an elite midfielder.

Hang on so calling Deledio soft is wrong but calling Bryce Gibbs so soft is a truthful statement?

What a completely back the front statement. Amazing.

Re: Brett Deledio

My biggest problem with Lids is that he simply goes missing for important periods of the game a lot of the time. The guy has all the tools to simply tear the competition apart but just lacks that X-factor to become a real star. I would call him soft, but simply needs to impose himself in games a lot more.

Re: Brett Deledio

he did'nt have a good game,

But I'm not particularly worried about him, I know he will bounce back, I'll tip him to be in our better players next week,

We have bigger problems than him.

Re: Brett Deledio

Make no mistake he will bounce back. Yep made some crucial errors on Thursday night but he wasnt on his pat malone there.

Re: Brett Deledio

No worries about Lids. He is a gun. He made mistakes, but also did good things. In future games he'll make less mistakes, and more good things.

I first saw that clip when looking for Richmond vids. I laughed so hard and looked out for his softness whenever I saw Carlton play.

So one video proves your point? Yep that was a average effort. No doubt.

So just beceuae there is no footage of Brett making any split second pullouts then your right?

Geez. Good luck with such a strong case.

Re: Brett Deledio

Gibbs is one the most balanced & skillful players leysy's seen. The sky is the limit for him in the game.

Sure he pulled out there. Leysy has also seen Lids pull out on the odd occasion. As long as it isn't a habit its clutching at straws to label young lads soft when its a rarity. One piece of footage is hardly evidence of any ongoing issues.

Also not to downgrade Lids as he's a brilliant footballer but Gibbs towelled him in the centenary game last year even though he's a full two years younger.

We have many more who do have a habit of not putting themselves in dangerous situations.
