Sure give him a role there next week and see how he goes as he has now been shown to be ineffectual up front.

He is not ineffectual up front. Actually think he would be good up there IF we had a decent midfield. But seeing that our midfield is hopeless he is wasted there.

That's a convenient excuse. He's playing as a lead up half forward. He was well beaten by his opponent yesterday until moved.

Re: Brett Deledio

inneffectual up forward , you are unbelievably naive, and so lacking in basic understanding of football ,TOO you and those other knockers make me yery angry.

Re: Brett Deledio

What annoys me are posters who make comments without really thinking, now ive heard some say lids needs to be harder this puzzles me as last year he was in the top 3 along with foley and tuck for the most hard ball gets.....Last night i mentioned without even knowing how many hard ball gets lids got, that what i saw from the AFL members reserve was that lids was winning his own ball and guys like petts, hyde, sanchez and bowden were getting them more so uncontested. 9 hard ball gets to Lids, equal highest along with foley and 3rd highest over the whole 44 players.

Mmmmm veeery interesting. ;D

Re: Brett Deledio

I'm finding it hard to understand why people are knocking Deledio. Yesterday he showed what he can do when moved into the middle. Deledio played some very promising games last year in the forward line and it is obvious the Tigers have been playing 'fill the gap' with him. Is that his fault? No, it's great that he's putting up his hand and taking on the roles asked of him. Last night our delivery into the forward line was woeful. How can it possibly help Deledio or any of the other forwards. Singling out Deledio is very unfair. Deledio was magnificent in the hard ball gets last night.

If you think 2 or 3 possessions upto just before half time is acceptable for a guy of Deledio's ability, then that's fine. I don't.
Nor did I think he worked hard enough last week. He has plenty of mates but that does not make him free of criticism.
You disagree, so be it but right or wrong I will always call it as I see it.
Otherwise welcome and enjoy your stay here.

He's not a forward ToO. Is 2 or 3 possessions up till half time acceptable? Yes it is when the Tigers played so badly and gave the forwards no opportunities whatsoever. Is 23 or 24 possessions after half time acceptable? I find your selective comments very peculiar especially considering you seem to have had no qualms about supporting strongly a serial non-performer in the past who was an equivalent #12 pick named Schulz.

Give the boy a go, it is not lack of endeavour, he is a clas player and deserves to be given hos own time to develop.

Which Coburg player are we bringing in for Lids Tooheys?

Re: Brett Deledio

have a look at the stats in the herald/sun 8 possies in 2nd qtr. and I'm pretty sure 1 goal 1 pt. I love how you people write in a way to denigrate players eg. 2 possies up to just near half time, your lack of understanding while spruiking off amazes me.

Re: Brett Deledio

i have been critical of lids in the past but accept that yesterday when he was noved into the middle he lifted us

we must play lids and foley together in the middle, rawlings can only tag 1 of them?

we desperately lack a crumbing fwd with pace that chases and tackles - White?

morton & riewoldt deserve a chance ahead of pettifer and hyde IMO

Deledio was good in the second half when playing on-ball. That's what we need more of.

Fix up your midfield and the rest will look after itself. Play your better players there and your so, so either forward or back.

Deledio, Brown, Bowden and Newman should all spend majority of time in the middle. Add Foley, Coughlan, Cotchin, Connors and Edwards and we have something to build on.

If we have to play Tuck, then play him in the forward line in the role Deledio is being forced to play atm. He's tallish, quickish, strong and a very good kick at goal.

If we have to play Jackson then play him in defence or a similar role to Tuck above.

If we have to play Polo, then play him as a man marking defender on those slippery medium talls. He would have been a good matchup on Jones yesterday.

If we have to play Raines, play him in the forward line with strict instructions to chase and tackle.

If we have to play Johnson then alternate him between half forward and half back.

They don't have the required talent and class to play in the middle, which is where games of football are won or lost.

Agree Harry, the midfield has been the problem for yonks - not enough class or vision. Only points of difference is Polo who I rate a but higher (lets not bring up yesterday) and the fact that Lids may end up as a valuable forward/mid. also Brown and Bowden may no longer have the legs to spend too much time in the middle. Collins also a smokey with some time and development

Totally agree. JB03 in particular has been doing it for years.

Fair enough Goodies, perhaps a little harsh on our golden child this morning. 8)

Sheesh anyone would think I wasn't a fan of Lids. Far from it in fact but perhaps I have had expectations that are too high the past fortnight, when really it's the leadership group & coach that deserve the scrutiny at the moment, not a 20 year old kid.

Now excuse me whilst I slink away from this thread and lick my wounds, after the pasting I have copped on it this morning. :boxing ;D

Re: Brett Deledio

Thats one of the things that annoys me, posters saying oh he had only a few touches in the 1st Q, fair enough but how did he go for the 3 quarters after that, he racked up another 25 possessions and 9 hard ball gets.

TW leave him in the middle, you have lids and foley on ball, the opposition tagger can only tag 1 this will allow the other to roam free.
Why oh why cant the coach or match committee see this :headscratch

Re: Brett Deledio

Pomise isnt going to win us matches....we have had players show promise since 1982.....and look where that promise has gotten us. Even more promises and even more frustration. Just wonder how many of our number one draft pics have delivered upon their promise since Anthony Banik. He showed promise as did Lounder the Flounder....infact all our draft picks have shown promise.

Time to step up to the plate, wherever he is playing, and show the goods.

I've always liked you for your humbleness ;)

I understand where you're coming from. We all want our players of the future to shine bright right now and we all have expectations. Is he a Judd? No I don't think he is. If you watch Judd play he is not only sublime in his skill but he is a very strong tackler, in 2006 and average 4.9 tackles a game. For a prime mover this is a fantastic statistic. Deledio does not have that strength but if he turns out to be 80 or 90% of a Judd I will be very very happy.

He needs to play in the midfield. He has struggled in the past to shrug that tagger but hopefully now with more experience and a stronger midfield in general he will be able to cope a lot better.

But its a good exfoliater isn't it? Sorrry ........... going loopy today.

PS good nick for Nathan - "the exfoliater" - an extractor called Foley who rips yous skin off!!

Sorry again..carry on all!

Re: Brett Deledio

Finally. The one good thing to come out of yesterday's loss. People who were getting their jollies with Lids in the forwardline now realise how important and how good it is when he's on the ball.
