KPP's, Roughead + Buddy = 8 goals

Mid's, Deledio + Tambling = Need More Time

Obviously midfielders take much longer to develop than KPP's. We recruited fast running, skillful matchwinners, the modern game doesn't suit talls anymore.

Not quite sure this is true. In fact isn't it the complete opposite?

What the ?

Re: Brett Deledio

Midfield midfield midfield.

I forgot he was in the team at half time. As soon as he went on the ball he changed the game. Leave him there Wallace!!!

Re: Brett Deledio

I thought Deledio had a great game and he help the team out a lot when he went into the middle. I hope Wallace plays him there more and the we can put Morton and Riewoldt into the forward line to help out Big Richo.

Re: Brett Deledio

agree with Oldie barely noticed him in first half.
also agree with Laff, Roughead is going to be good player and maybe the captain after Hodge, its a shame Hawks took him at pick 2 as we were apparently hopeful of getting him at pick 4.

Re: Brett Deledio

I dont know why Roughead keeps getting bagged on this forum. He kicked around the 40 goals last year and is progressing well. We would kill to have a young tall prgressing at that level.

Re: Brett Deledio

I know what's happened you brain dead supporters listened to gerard healy (never made a mistake in his career HA!) and you can't form your own opinion. 26 possies in last three quarters, 9 contested,85 % success, and your bagging the kid ...... You CANNOT be true supporters and you know nothing about football, take a damn good look at yourself.

Re: Brett Deledio

Time for the two guys to consistently put the score on the board! We can use all the excuses we want, age, size, youth, coaching etc. BUT if both Libs and Bling were up to it by now we should be seeing some return rather than some promise. Promises seem to be easily broken and perhaps these guys need to look at their performance and lack of attitude. Thats the pressure that comes with being the top draft picks.....I think after all these years they need to be recognising the pride of the history of the two numbers 3 and 30. Dean and Bourke....two guys who gave it all week after week!

I didn't listen to a word of gerard healy, I just watched the game.
If you don't think Deledio was in cruise control in the first half, then it's you who is not being honest with yourself.
Stats are cheap these days. Lids like many needs to lift.

Re: Brett Deledio

stats cheap ! okay but 9 were contested -highest for the tigers . you cannot seem to see the problem

Re: Brett Deledio

Deledio was good in the second half when playing on-ball. That's what we need more of.

Fix up your midfield and the rest will look after itself. Play your better players there and your so, so either forward or back.

Deledio, Brown, Bowden and Newman should all spend majority of time in the middle. Add Foley, Coughlan, Cotchin, Connors and Edwards and we have something to build on.

If we have to play Tuck, then play him in the forward line in the role Deledio is being forced to play atm. He's tallish, quickish, strong and a very good kick at goal.

If we have to play Jackson then play him in defence or a similar role to Tuck above.

If we have to play Polo, then play him as a man marking defender on those slippery medium talls. He would have been a good matchup on Jones yesterday.

If we have to play Raines, play him in the forward line with strict instructions to chase and tackle.

If we have to play Johnson then alternate him between half forward and half back.

They don't have the required talent and class to play in the middle, which is where games of football are won or lost.

I can see the problem cs.
He was completely ineffective up forward and needs to lift his game across the board.

Everyone is saying he needs to play midfield, well perhaps there is an element of truth to that but how hard a tag do you think he was given in the 2nd half when the game was shot?
How would he have gone with Brady Rawlings on him?

Re: Brett Deledio

Ok he may have done the most when the game was over. The other side of that is that he kept fighting when others dropped their head. He still was easily the topped ranked Tiger according to Champion data

He also set up some and kicked one or two of the key goals when the game was in the balance against Carlton.

On a team lacking guys who can win the hard ball Lids win a lot of it. If only we had four of him.

Re: Brett Deledio

if stats are so cheap --- then why the hell aren't you on the field getting all these cheap stats , you make AFL sound like anyone can do it YOU know that's not true . I'd be surprised if you played much at any level.

Re: Brett Deledio

let's discuss up forward, can you not see why the smaller/mid forwards were not getting the ball ? lead after lead was ignored for a longer kick to a contest because richo was calling for it in that contest. Why do you think Browny ,Petts and Lids effectiveness was diminished in the first quarter because all the ball was directed to richo. Some of you seem blinded by richo leading and screaming for the ball its not always the best option

Then Foley would have been free.

That's just the point - Deledio does get tagged because opposition teams know he is damaging. And it's not necessarily a bad thing as it would take pressure off Foley.

There is no point hiding him in the forward line. He must take it head on.

Ever wonder why Tuck, Johnson, Hyde, Tivendale, Jackson, Tambling never get tagged ?

And this is something that all of Richo's coaches have failed to change. The guy gives and demands but often the others are ignored BUT when he doesnt get it delivered to him he cracks em.

Fair point Harry, I am not disputing Deledio should not be played in the midfield, I am just not convinced he is playing well ATM. He looks to be a slow starter just as he was last season.
People conveniently forget how ordinary the first half of last year was for him when he was on the ball and was given the heavy tag. That's why this whole forward line debate began in the first place.
Sure give him a role there next week and see how he goes as he has now been shown to be ineffectual up front.
That to me is disappointing in itself and should be to others.
