Brett Deledio (merged)

great for 3 quarters...showed lots of courage backing into packs...has found his position as a half back - floating to half forward role...went quiet when we needed him the most in the last quarter

Thought his last qtr apart from the fumble was alrite

Set up the first goal with a 45-60 meter run along the wing

yep that was brilliant play by Lids...I'm talking of the 25 minutes that followed...but hey he was terrific for the majority of the game...so was Foley, Polak, King, Pettifer, Howat, Richo and Bling

He's going to be just fine and the points regarding our midfield options are relevant when referring to Lids. How many other 20 year olds get the other team's best tagger every week?

It's a tough apprenticeship for the young fella, but he will be a genuine star some day soon.

My hope is that his generation of players at the club hurt like hell at the present situation and use that pain to punish every other team when they get on top like the Lions did with Voss, Aker, Leppa, Hart, Lynch, White etc.

I think we are in the midst of Deledio taking the step.

Today was a massive test to see how he would bounce back after last week. And he responded.
Couple of gusty efforts, went back into a oncoming Pavlich lead and did so with full commitment, had to sit under another contest and did so with no problem. Something I had not seen from him, he had to go and he did. That is all anyone can ask.

Run aggressively and took the game on and used the ball really well. He is becoming a top flight back flanker in the Jason Gram mould of modern footballer. It is becoming the most important spot on the ground. Hopefully with time he moves into the centre square.

One can only imagine were he will be after another 40 games.

IMO he wasn't in the best - He still looks like he is cruising way to much for mine.

Get real, he looked anything but cruising, maybe U2 he's just too quick to get caught.
BTW id have Lids, foley, raines and polak as our best.
And honorable mentions to tuck, blingers, petts and king.

He had a great game. Moving along nicely for somone so soft.

soft playing in the middle...which is why TW doesn't play him there.

Whatever you say RainsyBaby

;) Lids was great tonight...not better than Foley, Polak or King...but he was next best...well done...I'm one happy man if he plays like that each week...just keep him out of the middle.

sorry mate....Soft players don't back into packs like he did today!!!

Just quietly...I'd like to think this thread has helped Lids identify some of his flaws...I have no doubt he has been working hard on them the past month...the results of that hard work was on display today...it's called COURAGE...who knows he may make a goose out of me and eventually TW will give him another go in the middle and win that HARD BALL the way Foley does...but I'm happy if he doesn't...I like the running half back / roam the half forward role...so everyone's happy.
When Del Santo joins the Tiges next year...our midfield will be settled.

Yes RB ur right he was full of courage and im glad u have acknowledged that, and courage surely doesn't = "soft" as u have made a point when posting on lids of late.

See RB one minute ur praising him for his courage and the next ur saying he's soft to play in the middle, mate he's had more contested possessions in the past month (29) ahead of foley just and u continually keep on this crusade of soft. Give it up mate!

AT...mate I give credit when it's due...loved the way Lids backed into packs on a couple of occasions tonight...I am telling you he has been working on this...it was a flaw...and I applaud him for showing great courage :clap
I will applaud him even more when TW gives him another chance in the middle with Foley...and if he displays the same courage...I will be the first to recognise it here and applaud the loudest...I can see he is working hard to rectify it...well done Brett if you read this...I'm sure he knows where I'm coming from and I admire him for his efforts.

Fair enough u have on this occassion ill grant you that :hihi I think we will see lids more so in the middle in 2008 with foley and cogs.
ATM whether his playing off half back or FWD he is winning his own ball and giving us plenty of run, skills are sublime.

Another 10 contested possessions yesterday; more than anyone except Tuck. Showed great courage backing into packs and apart from a couple of *smile* ups he skill level was generally very good. Once we get some half decent players around him he will be a topliner absolutely no doubt.

Exciting times ahead with lids and the bling.
Agreed, Lids reminded me of the other bloke who wore his number; Duncan Kellaway, with his courage yesterday. He's a better kick and a lot faster, too. Bling is coming along, his kicking has improved from earlier in the season. We won't get much joy this season, but there is a bright future ahead with quality youth like this in the side.

This kid is a gun.... at wat 20yrs of age he carriers too much pressure...still thats just how it is....i still believe tambling will be just as good...- will be a freak show in a cpl of yrs.
