Skybeau...I suggest you stop looking at stats when you make your judgement on Lids.

WATCH THE GAME...WATCH HOW HE ATTACKS THE BALL...THEN GET BACK TO ME.

Answer this for me without beating around the bush.

Why hasn't Terry Wallace persisted with Lids in ther middle ?

And please don't dish me out the crap about him not handling his tag.

I know the answer...Wallace knows the answer...football people in the know have the answer.

Remember don't grab that stats book to answer the question :rofl

how can people seriously be bagging deleido.........yeh he had 6 disposals against Ling/geelong.........how many did kerr have in the last half against ling/geelong ZERO, how many possesions did delsanto have in the first half against ling/Geelong FOUR.....and what about other draftees in his draft, he is going as well as any unbeleivable

Yeah Ling's been carving them up.
Disappointing game from Lids last weekend though regardless.
He'll develop consistency with experience. I think he's travelling very well.

Yawn. I suggest you get back in touch with reality RB, because you're living in la la land right now...

You've answered NONE of my questions (and Ridley's and Astute's) to you during this thread, so I don't feel the obligation to answer yours.

Go back into your little hole and only come out when you get some gray matter, ok?

This thread makes me wish we had the karma again. I'd love to be able to put some "karma" on this thread.

Irrational posting, to the point of trolling, name calling. It's got it all.

Can we possibly start a worst PRE poster competition?

My apologies General, this will be the last time I'll be seen responding to this *smile* and hence prolonging this stupid thread.

How can one take you serious Skybeau with a Patrick Bowden pic with the words "I'm all class " :rotfl

You are the one that blew this right out of proportion mate...I'm entitled to my view...I've never taken a backwards step regards to what I think is right about "Lids"...he has not proven himself in the middle...that was the point of my thread all along.

Deledio is a very immature player. Has anybody else noticed that his jaw is getting heavier? Late developer. He'll probably have to buy a razor next year.

Inconsistency is not a huge concern. The highs are getting higher and that's real good.

As for his difficulty in shaking a tag, well he gets a tag pretty much every week. Has done for twenty or thirty games.

I don't believe that Lids is a natural outside player. I think he's struggled in the running receiver role but he is improving in this role.

He's a bit one dimensional in the way he attacks the ball inside. He usually does that James Hird suicide thing. Not the way forward for him.

Lids has been kept out of the traffic for most of his AFL career to date by his coach. See Luke Ball for how to destroy a young player by using him as a sledgehammer from 19yo. Luke Ball would be a better and fitter player today if he'd been managed as Deledio has.

Lids is getting a run through the middle now (at 20yo) and he often struggles. Just the way he did when he was first being taught the run and receive game.

I like the way Deledio has been managed. Wallace knows how much we have tied up in Deledio and IMO he hasn't put a foot wrong as his coach.

interesting reading jack

This is to all you PRE and RFC members who persist on talking negatively about this young star and future champion...

Often in his breif career he has been compared with his peers, namely the top 5 draftees at the end of 2004.... These being Roughead, Griffen, Tambling and Franklin.

So I thought, lets just see how they are really doing in 2007 and for their careers. So here it is:

DELEDIO ROUGHEAD GRIFFEN TAMBLING FRANKLIN

Makes for some interesting reading and although I don't swear by stats, they can give us some indication as to how a player is going. Make up your own minds, but they say the hardest thing in footy is winning possession. Well LIDS is on top in all of those areas.... Kicks, Hanballs, Disposals and Marks.... Combine this with his speed and raw talent, I would take him in this group of 5 any day and twice on Sunday....

I admit there are areas he needs to work on, namely defensive pressure (tackling, chasing), but the signs are there that he will be a future leader at the club.

Lets not forget this is his third year.... If any of you want to start pointing fingers take a look at the following before you have a go at LIDS:

Pettifer - 2000 Draft No.9 - Has taken him 5 years to be a consistent contributor and play all 22 games.
Hyde - 2000 Draft No. 40 - 2004, 5, 6 best years but hasn't come close to recapturing this form.

Players mature at different stages and maybe Lids did mature to early in his first year and now the expectations are so great....

I say let's let him develop at a steady rate.... Remember there is only one Chris Judd, and only one Brett Deledio!!! GO LIDS!!!

Great figures TA11 - Lids is doing fine. They show up the hype over Franklin as well. Same disposal figures as Richie and kicked an average of one more goal per game playing as a full time forward. Apart from his Mcadam fortnight when he kicked 15 in two games has kicked five Bags of "1" and three bags of "3" this year. Lots of potential granted but aint proved much yet. I note that Richie has Lance covered as a ruckman but that would be the case against a bloke with zero physicality. :)

I've not read this entire thread, so apologies if has already been mentioned.

In the press conference after last weeks draw, when Leigh Matthew's was asked about the tag on Delidio, he described him as Richmond's most damaging player. High praise me thinks.

Would love to see avg contested possessions per game built into this analysis as well. Lids would absolutely blow all of the others out of the water with this stat I would expect.

Someone very clever once said: Never hang a youngster for inconsistency. It's the vice that proves their virtue

You got that right BT, lids in his last 3 games has ave 23 contested possessions thats almost 8 per match, and in his last 4 games he has ave 29 hardly soft in my eyes. Developing nicely.

I liked those 2 or 3 clamp like marks he took in the Bris game. Just spread the big shoulders out you aren't getting near this pal and clomp....very nice skill to have looking forward.

Yeah I noticed his marking against Essendon, he's developing an almost vice like grip, that strength in his wrists and hands should help him in close as well.

Interesting stats.
The only problem I have with them, is that we are comparing apples and oranges.
You can't compare the stats of Lids and Roughead (or Franklin for that matter), as they are totally different players.
I'm sure Lids has more possessions than Dean Cox. more goals than Daniel Kerr, and more marks than a Chris Judd....so does that mean he is the best player out of this group?

I'd be more interested in how Lids stats look now, compared to Judd, Aker, and McLeod, at the same age/time?
That would give us more of an indication of how he is going, and whether he is on target to be as good as them, and maybe what he needs to work on to get to that "champion" status in the future.

agree, would love to know how his numbers stack up against the elite onballers in the comp
