okay so who is jordan lewis protected by? mcglynn, sewell, birchall, crawf, hodge mitchell......

Mitchell probably gives him the most cover. But Sewell would be valuable inside too. Even Hodge in bursts. Sewell, Mitchell and Lewis form a much better trio than Richmond or Essendon can muster. (The Bummers are nearly as poor as we are.)

It's pretty clear that Lewis gets an easier ride in his midfield than Lids does in Richmond's what with having a ruckman and all. But you'd have to say Lewis is just a much more advanced and clearly better midfielder than Deledio ATM.

To be fair to Deledio, he is a year younger than Lewis and looks an immature specimen. And Deledio still has the scope to become a much more complete player than any other on our list.

Mitchell, Hodge, Sewell and Crawf are all better than any midfielder on our list. Look at the support he has.

agree TOO, this is what is worrying me about the kid. if we want him to become the judd type, as many have mentioned, this must be a major aspect of his game. agressive, breaking tackles, pushing fwd and kicking goals, all judd aspect that we dont see glimpses of in lids ???

Personally I've always thought Tambling will be a better player than Deledio. Both should be stars though.

I'd be disappointed if Lids become the next Joel Bowden. The reason Judd is as good as he is isn't just for the same qualities Lids has, but also his tackling, 1%ers and chasing.

Deledio won the NAB Challenge so he has the drive, it's a little unfair to think that he's lazy if any of you are thinking it.

I think its just worth making a point on Sunday night's performance in relation to Deledio's output. Yes i agree, it wasnt up to scratch and he seems to generally lack intensity. However, if you go back and look at the game you will notice 2 things:-

1. Geelong were not only winning enormous numbers of centre bounce ruck taps, they were TAPS tp advantage...we were smashed in that area. Which brings me to my next point

2. When you are being smashed in the ruck...it is logical that you must go man on man to arrest the slide. Our players appeared to have no interest whatsoever in manning up in the centre.

So if we are not winning ruck taps and we are not manning up, no wonder our possession count was so much lower than Geelong's.

In response to the question of why Foley was able to still prosper, well i think that it is because he is one of the few players that appears to have that Glenn Archer style maniacal intent to win at all costs.

Deledio should have played better than he did, however for a 20 year old 50 gamer playing in a team deviod of midfield leadership (any leadership to some degree) i think he is travelling ok.

Most of us including myself have been comparing Bling to Franklin and it is odviouse Franklin is miles ahead.

What has Deledio done this year and even last year to get away scott free, He has done nothing, I don't even think he was being tagged on the weekend???
No doubt he is thinking about a fat offer from the bummers or carlton scum.
Terry and Miller must answer for there recruiting stuff ups.

Patterson - not up to it, basketballer
Polo - struggling
Jon - talented but?
Deledio - over rated
Tambling - over rated

These are our so called fab 4, gun recruits set to change the world for us all.
I'm very dissapointed that Tambo is the only one copping it as none of them are as good as Franklin and Hawthorns kids are 10 times better than ours as are most clubs.

You can get a cream for that, you rub it into your belly, and voila!! you turn into a supporter with a little faith to boot. Forgive my cycnicism, but I am sooo tired of all this pessimism.

I think that apart from last weekend's effort (or lack of) Deledio has done some good things this season. Bu don't let ME ruin your disappointment....

Many on here are still judging Deledio's ruck-roving ability on one game. I maintain you cant play him there for one game and decide that he's not good enough for the position. If he's not there is only one way to find out. Personally at this point of his career I'd like to see him anywhere but the backline.

He has had 3 hauls of 6 and one of 9. 75 goals in 40 games for a 20 year old is a very good effort.

49 games. And Deledio was always like this before we drafted him, he has never excelled in the midfield. I hope we can teach him the smarts because we're crying out for an elite midfielder and atm Tambling is the only elite prospect we have in this area. Foley is great but may lack the polish to become elite.

just some general comparrissons with bling and lids.
lids has kicked 1 goal in 6 games. tambling kicked 4 in ONE QTR. (7 total)
lids has laid 7 tackles this year. bling is up to 20.

what im interested in though (incl above) is what the hard ball gets and 1%ers are but ill bet my butt lids is a way behind here also.

THe Hawks have a core group of tough hard mids in Hodge Sewell Mitchell Brown Vandenburg etc & Lewis himself is a solid fella not a real skillfull midfield bar Hodge but runs real hard & applies lots of pressure on opponents. The only tough mid we have is Tuck maybe something the fitness guys can look at more beef & muscle on our guys!! This is why I think Newman might be an option with Tuck & Foley in the middle won't get pushed off the ball easy with Polo & Deledio on the wings?
