Brandon Ellis

Why the rush to get rid of our decent players? Ellis on this thread; Riewoldt elsewhere.

What about drafting & developing our own talent. Invest in the best possible recruiters & development coaches (not the ones we have now), draft in talent & fast track them ASAP just like Hawthorn, Sydney etc.

Quick fixes never work - all the way back to John Pitura.

Just to reiterate what JC is.

21 years old. 194/90 (genuine CHF size). 50 games, 120 goals. for a basketcase crap side. they are Richo numbers. better in fact.

If you wouldnt give TV and young Brandon for him, as admirable as your loyalty is, youre on the left hand side of the bell curve, in terms of list management smarts. IMO.

No way. Overpaying.

Can't quite understand the reasoning behind trading out a Ruck / CHF plus a mid to get back a CHF. Yes J.C. is perhaps a better CHF than Tyrone, but he can't ruck or play mid as well so to me it appears we'd be paying out a premium, perhaps even overs.
Could understand if we were looking at trading a quality draft pick plus perhaps a surplus or unfulfilled potential player to sweeten the pick to import a decent player.
Why weaken our list in several areas to try and strengthen just one area?

In a frighten heartbeat

I'd be giving GWS someone like Astbury, not Ellis.

They need key backs. Give something of value to get something of value.
They don't need mids - can't play em all now.

Agree that we need Ellis but then again we need Astbury as a key defender. He has just starting to showcase his true talent when the injury struck. Both are part of our future

because the 'just one area', being CHF, wins premierships. The ruck also, so I take your point that we would be weakening our ruck division significantly.

Ive got a feeling JC is the next carey/jon brown of his geneneration.

what did the hawks give to land Gunston and Burgoyne (genuine, not rhetorical, question). They were premiership plays.

Can't remember exactly, think it was draft picks. But you need to remember Hawthorn was already deep in a finals n premiership era. Not bouncing like a yo yo between fifth n fifteenth.

:hihi. true. But they started making big plays (trading Hay and Thompson out was huge) while they were in the crapper.

Hawks are the list management benchmark IMO.

having said everything ive said on the last few pages, young Brandon could BE our shaun burgoyne.

Gunston: traded to Hawthorn in a deal that saw three draft picks (pick 24, 46 & 64) given to Adelaide and two picks returned (pick 53 and 71)

Burgoyne: pick nine, 40, 56 and Mark Williams (not sure about this one as it was a complex deal involving 4 clubs)

i reckon they got pick 16 from the Bummers for Williams.
they then gave 9 & 16 for Burgoyne. some posters on here go on about our trading but there is no way known we should have or would have traded 2 top 20 picks for Burgoyne. For the hawks tho it was a great trade.

seems like they stole Gunston, and paid about right for Burgs.

Is Brandon our Shaun Burgoyne?

Is he the bloke that will get 10 last qtr possessions and kick 2 to win us tight games?

I dunno. he certainly has a big tank and finishing class. nah, GWS can get *smile*. Im keeping him.

Don't want to trade Brandon. How old is he - 20/21? He is tracking beautifully for his age. Just no.
