Brandon Ellis

Gia was smart - he lent back but tapped the ball forward, didn't even try to take possession, leaning back Ellis had no choice but to put hands on him, as soon as Gia felt that out went the arms. Milked it for all it's worth. Front position won it pure and simple.

All too obvious.

If you point the finger anywhere, I look at Edwards giving it up in the forward line too easily. Instead of handpassing to the doggies he should have forced a ball up. That turnover meant we were out of position. But, given we were in front, we should have had more players behind the ball so the doggies didn't have space to run into.

It was a free against Ellis simplyly because he turned and took his eyes of the ball. He was in the correct position being in front, but the kick was to the Gias advantage. Ellis has the skills overhead and should have just played the ball.

Anyway, I blame 22 players who didn't turn up till half time for the loss, not Edwards or Ellis.

Ellis will be a gun, its his 3rd year, he's one of the hardest workers at the club... Kids take longer, he's also been thrown around into different positions.. I don't for a second believe i understand what Dimma means when he says we need to learn, i do have faith that both he and Choco and other coaches are teaching both individually and team lessons..

This Gia situation is one for the player, we need to have faith that he will learn and hopefully in a few years do something similiar to his opponent out of footy smarts...

Love watching his games, needs for consistency but that can be said for almost all kids baring the freaks..

Crafty old veteran like Gia sucked in a youngster in a desperate situation, happens all the time. Obvious question after playing crap for half a game then blitzing and hitting the lead with a minute or two left in the game. Where was the *smile* leadership that read the game situation and shut down the game for two minutes instead of continuing to play like they were still trying to find the winning score. We should have been in total shut down, keepings off mode from the instant we hit the lead.
Far too many games in recent years when we've cribbed the lead in an arse busting tight game we've continued to play attacking footy and thrown away victory.

If we actual tried in the first half of the game we would have blitzed the dogs and we wouldn't be crying over this play.

Super play from Gia, Ellis went hard at the hips as he should have and hit him hard, If Gia took possession he wouldn't have had time to swing either way, if Ellis had have stayed off him an tried to carrel him I'm tipping the crafty ol fella would have faked left an swung back on the right for a goal anyway

Yup, that play was over when Sheds "no-look" handballed in a brain fart worthy of the PM.

No Ellis panicked he should have had eyes on the ball... It was bad play, the pressure got to him

cant be stuft trolling through thread, but agree 100% with cc. Gia is a wily old cat who drew the free superbly. ellis never stood a chance.

What was Ellis doing as last man in the goal square?

Was it just a transition thing? Hard to tell on TV.

If you think gia one out on Ellis is something that's fair to concede as never standing a chance... Wow...

Gazza slicing us up, cloke kicking 6, Harry Taylor blanketing reiwoldt, yep fair enough

Letting gia embarass you? No not good enough he needed to be better. He will know that.

Yep pretty much. Vickery was sent behind the ball but pushed too far up the ground and if memory serves me correctly went third man up in the ruck contest just between the half way line and our forward 50. Our defence pushed up the ground effectively leaving Ellis one out with Gia. We lost the ball on our half forward line, got caught on the break and the rest is history.

Been a fairly talented player for a hell of a long time has Gia. Ideal player for the super sub last qtr burst. Ball was put to Gia's advantage and Ellis never stood a chance, deep in the dogs forward line, one out with a minute to go. Gia was always going to tear Brandon a shiny bright new one in that passage of play.

Wasn't exactly a classic "one out". Gia was on his own and it looked a certain goal when the Dogs player kicked it to him. Ellis had to scramble back 20m to even make it a contest.

That rotten bloody oval ball needed to do a Warney out of the back of the hand too
