totally agree.

He has quite a few credits in the bank though, so we should be able to just put it down to one of those games that every player has from time to time.

Re: Welcome Brandon Ellis

Poor game from Ellis tonight but he will take a lot out of the game. He knows he has to improve under pressure now.

It was. But one thing we know is his character is such that he'll work his arse off to rectify that.

Re: Welcome Brandon Ellis

Wasn't really a surprise.
Young guy learning his way and his preseason form was nowhere near as good as everyone made out.
He dominated playing loose against Melbourne's reserves and was alright against Essendon but this is the real stuff.

He'll be fine but just a reality check for some.

Re: Welcome Brandon Ellis

Big fan of Brandon but he did have a shocker tonight. Most players have a weakness that rears its head when they're in a trough. For Brandon it's getting rid of the ball too slowly. Froze and got caught once tonight - and had a kick smothered when it needn't have been on another occasion. He looked devastated after being subbed, really looked like he was burning inside. I have a feeling he'll go OK next week.

Re: Welcome Brandon Ellis

Last time Ellis had a game that bad Dimma rested him then brought him on forward. The kid kicked a goal and went on from there.

2YB? No rest. No chance forward. At 19yo he's not a boy any more.

Re: Welcome Brandon Ellis

Chocco and he will sit down and go over the tape.

He'll learn from this and be better next week.

Re: Welcome Brandon Ellis

Hopefully hardwick has balls and drops him..had No idea from the 1st minute. I wanted him subbed off in the 1st qtr.
I thought he was a tough player, he skirted nearly every contest he went to. I'm pretty sure he played a roll in about half Carlton's goals..

I'd give him another week, we had a win and he's got some credit. but he was a liability. Another one like thats and out for Vlas the Implaler

Just a quick one, Zip. Are you a troll?
I only ask, because we have our first round 1 win since '08 and all I have read from you is negatives.
Would hate to see what you would've posted had we lost!

Re: Welcome Brandon Ellis

He's had a good pre-season.

I'm probably reading way too much into just one game of footy, but he could suffer a bit from the 2nd year blues that so many 2nd year players succumb to.

Or, it could just be a once off, hope Choco and co. encourage him to keep playing the style of play that he does best. Never know, the big stage could have got to him as well.

We're you there? We were 40 up and we almost lost and lucky we didn't loose.
And your happy, that's wonderful. I'm not!
If Carlton were up by 36 at 3qtr time they would've slapped us by 10 goals.
Hardwick hasn't got a plan b, we have players that have had the 50-60 games and still make basic mistakes and go into there shells when things become tough..

Re: Welcome Brandon Ellis

a teenage kid got overwhelmed in front of 80K against a slippery, dangerous opponent.

bah, i hope he gets a chance to show his real wares this week.

Nah, wasn't there, Zip.
Last year we would have lost that game, this year we won. Great sign!
As for players going in their shell, I would say it is more tiredness than anything else. We roll with a very demanding game plan. The ability to hold that for 4 qrts will come over time.

Really like Ellis however writing was on the wall in our NAB 4 game vs doggies. I was there and watched him pull out of at least 3 contests that day...did the same thing yesterday on one or two occassions that I'm sure Hardwick will let him know about when they review the tape. Can't afford another game like that but I'm sure he'll be right. Just needs 1 good qtr and his confidence will return. With Grimes coming back, Vlas waiting in the wings and Petterd pushing for selection (assuming his groin is only minor), that good quarter of footy for Ellis needs to come PDQ for his sake.

His form in the preseason was good. Yesterday he looked like Pettifer. That goal betts kicked was caused by him not going 100% at the ball.
I'm sure that was just a crap night. He will be ok

Re: Welcome Brandon Ellis

Just watched the replay of the game and I noticed that in the first few minutes Ellis committed two real blunders. Firstly he gave away a 50 meter penalty and the a couple of minutes later he got caught red handed holding the ball by betts, resulting in their second goal. I reckon as a young kid that would be enough to wreck his confidence for the rest of the nightand explain what was probably the worst game he has played in his short career. I doubt that he will be dropped, but it wouldn't bother me if he did. He'll bounce back.
