Haven't got the book yet, but have lined it up to be under the Chrissie tree this year. Just read this excerpt in the Age today. Emotional. I shed a tear. I also finished it and thought 'Geez, we really ARE the best club in this land'. Even without winning the final, I would love to play with this club. Would be busting to get into this group. This is a club we can all be very proud of.

If only my footy talents as a kid were about 200 times what they were...

Really looking forward to reading this book after Christmas!!!

Very emotional reading that article. Brando has done it tough in life. Extra respect.

Brando grew up in 21st Century Melbourne .... Was extremely revealing the extent of would you call it poverty His family endured? Had echoes of the black boxers fighting there way out of a slum in Harlem in the 30s. But that is another place another time. Brando grew up in this city in this time. I felt very humbled by his experience.

But Brando was one who got out.
Think of the other 999 who don't get out and suffer a life of disadvantage.
It's why I always struggle when watching the Smith Family ad about sponsoring a child in poverty.

I always admire a fighter! I tip my hat to you Brandon and to your Mum and Dad, they brought you up well.

Yes, spot on. Love Brandon's back story, always have even when I seriously doubted if he'd make it. But yeah this post is the truth. But more like 3 or 5 or 10 thousand. I used to do work with disadvantaged kids, the boys mostly wanted to be sports stars or rappers. One kid made it onto an NRL supp list in all the years I worked there, then wrecked his knee.

These programs only work if you have the right people at the club. The Tigers have struck gold with their personnel.

From what we can glean this is no accident either.

Terrific article. Brought me to tears. Can't wait to read the book.

You can see why the players were so close and prepared to go to war together.

What I was wondering was how do the leaders of the program accommodate delistings and what effect that might have on group unity. The other thought was how do you integrate new recruits into such a tight group? Could be pretty daunting for an 18 year old.

I'm sure they have a plan. Would be interested to understand it if it was ever detailed somewhere.

Excellent point

Fantastic article, can't wait to buy the book. Had no idea that Ellis did it that tough. That's some intense bonding between teammates. If we picked up a delisted player at this stage, they may find it tougher than expected to crack into the group!

But according to most in media and politics it's because the other 999 don't work hard (like Brando and said media and politicians did)

I just love Brandon's shake of the head and Broady's sh!t eating grin during the National Anthem. To me they were saying bring it on you Crow muppets.

Reclaimed his title in the most recent 2klm time trial over Lambert who has won the previous 2.
He's not going to lie down. Great to see
