Ellis is a lock for round 1.

Correct. I like the fact he went better in the third term with a significantly weaker side around him. Took control of the backline.

He is good in traffic, and is very creative with his handball as well. He moves like Heath Shaw.

Think he will get better quickly at the top level.

Re: Welcome Brandon Ellis

Ellis is going to be a good player for us.

Liked what I saw last night. When you watch him during the game, he is just so focussed it is scarry.

He moves quicker than I thought he would which was a good surprise. When he's up and going has some decent speed although still wouldn't fancy him against the likes of Betts, etc off the mark.

Re: Welcome Brandon Ellis

played well.

well ahead of morris and dea at this stage for a spot in the back line.

Yep further in front then black caviar would be in a hanging rock maiden field.

Simply looks a footballer, not convinced his an elite kick as yet but defiantly in our top 5

I tend to look at this way - Morris would be the better option when Carlton & Betts have the ball - but Ellis is the better option when we have the ball and better ball users mean we have the ball more and Carlton & Betts have it less. In Sum: Possession is the best defence, therefore Ellis over Morris for me at this stage.

Nice way of putting it. I agree.

His 20 metre sprint time was almost identical to Hurn's, which came in at a shade over 3 seconds. He is a little slow out of the blocks but is as quick as most when at full speed. I think the key with Ellis will be sharp reflexes and hitting packs at pace, given his endurance is elite, i doubt he'll have any problems adapting his game. It might be a different story in the midfield but we need a replacement for Deledio and Ellis fits the bill nicely.

Re: Welcome Brandon Ellis

I thought he was a lock then I put a team together and I can't fit him in, not even as a sub.
It might actually be a good thing to hold him back anyway. The pressure in that Carlton game will be huge so not the ideal place to find out if the "kid" can handle it. I'd rather play a Conca (even with him missing games). Houli, Lids or even Batchelor due to his height in that Back Flank role. But he is ahead of Helbig after a couple of games which is a little dissapointing as I thought Helbig might be further advanced.

I respect the thinking bit I think once you've pushed Lids and Conca into the midfield Ellis walks into a round 1 start.

He's mentally tough and will be able to handle it.

Re: Welcome Brandon Ellis

Where he has come from will hold him in good stead and I think he'll carve out a good career and will leave no stone unturned.

is a dead set lock for r 1 , hello rising star :hihi

there's been a influx of money on Ellis to win the raising star.
His odds have shorten since

Re: Welcome Brandon Ellis

Another 20 or so touches and 5 tackles. Will take the Deledio HB role nicely.

Get him in your DT's too.

Really impressed with his rate of improvement from week 1 of NAB, to last weeks improved effort in the second half and then the full game display today.

Great tackler, makes them stick. Great hands in traffic and very safe with the ball in his hands.

Re: Welcome Brandon Ellis

Good old head on his shoulders. And tough to boot. Very impressed.

Just needs to clean up his disposal.
