Bosses of the world rejoice- PRE outage Friday 2nd December

I'm starting to have hot & cold sweats, shaking all over, with itchy arms & legs.

Does this mean I am addicted to PRE?

I think I will stay in bed all day Friday & sleep through the whole ordeal.........cheers from frantically nervous RT.

Can you collect stats on the ignore function?
If so, is there going to be a table posted to see who is ignored the most?
;D

Pretty funny how some never take things at face value.

It's not censorship or restricting one's right to an opinion as shamekha alluded to. It's not a function for those who don't choose to register/log in on the forum. It's not compulsory to use.

If people are negative about the ignore function I think I'll hide when/if they find out about some of the other new moderator options. :blah

its a personal censoring of views and debate of someone's opinion.. self censorship.. i would compare it to only buying the Heraldsun and you always know the type of information you're going to get.. But if you read more peoples views on a subject no matter how extreme they are there is usually something to get out of it. It gives a more rounded view of the topic and also gets the extremes of both sides..

i'm not having a dig at the forum, just giving a broader view of people closing their own minds to others views

Placing oneself in a bubble

How is it censorship ? Which of these definitions do you think the Ignore feature addresses ?

It's automated ignoring. Now I see a members avatar and I automatically jump to the next post. With SMF the system does it for me.

On normal days it wouldn't make much difference. On game day threads the Ignore feature is a must.

Bit of angst in that there Baloo.. i understand the thought behind the ignore button.

Censorship is the suppression of speech or other communication which may be considered objectionable, harmful, sensitive, or inconvenient to the general body of people as determined by a government, media outlet, or other controlling body.

Using your generously donated google function. i would say the above fits quite well.. its not PRE that is censoring, it is the individual making their own censorship judgement being their own controlling body..

i will reiterate that i am not questioning PRE or the fact that there will be an ignore function. i am asking myself as much as others if ignoring people's veiws is a narrowing of the mind by closing down to others opinions that i may not like..

i would like to ignore certain posts by some posters but not all of them.. Especially anything that has 'dud delist' in it.

I don't understand how the ignore function is censorship. It's ignoring a persons posts. there I no censoring, in the true meaning of the word, about it.

I think the term censorship is way over used, abused even, much like the racism word is.

i would think that by stopping yourself from reading certain information because you don't like/agree with it is censoring that opinion from your reading..

You're assuming I'm censoring someome because I don't like or agree with their opinions. If I did that I'd only be viewing my posts and maybe Brodders on a good day. That certainly wouldn't be the case

Censoring is denying someone the right to speak, ignoring isn't denying them that.

the bubble world has arrived.. :police:

i find this and interesting one. on one hand i dont believe in censorship and think everyone has a right to their own opinion.

It's hard to believe the above comments are any more than trolling for a bit of attention considering the contradiction in your comment below.

Censorship? Suppression of speech? Putting yourself in a bubble? :blah

Rosy, if a major football story breaks on Friday, who's server will we be able to explode?

Will there be a list of who is ignoring who? And if so, who will have access to it, or will it be a system much like PM's, unable to be seen by anyone but the user themself?

PM's can be seen by others just not the users.
