4 years? Give me a break. He's done nothing to deserve that.

You're missing the point. His value is low. If we sign him for 4 years at $300,00 pa, it is a far better investment for the club than a 2 year deal at $300,000 where he may be worth substantially more when he comes out of contract in 2018.

This the precise reason I have no issue giving him 4 years. Helps us more than it helps him.

Yeah this is the other advantage, for years 3 and 4 he's likely to be on less than he would be otherwise.

And if he decides to become a burger eating couch sloth? Or if his undying love for the Scum keeps him looking north? Four years is a long time to guarantee to pay for 19 y-o IMO.

In the unlikely event he did that he'd be on slightly above the league average.

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

I think a four year contract is justified. I have seen enough this year to value him at 300k. Could be a bargain.

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

Club had no problem dishing out 3 year and very premature deals to Hampson, Morris, in recent times. Players with obvious massive deficiencies in their game.
Lennon has a long, long way to go but looks like the silkiest player I've seen in a Tigers jumper since Deledio. His kicking and one mark grabs were immaculate in second half of year.
Seriously, enough with the vanilla foot soldiers and unskilled goers.
Just re-sign him and get Yarran as well.

I agree. If this is all true, I also think it strange that his manager wouldn't advise him to sign a 2 year deal, and then enjoy an increased contract following that. I personally think 3 years would suffice, because lets be honest - he is going to be one the list for at least the next 3 years, I've seen enough of him to be sure of that.

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

4 years? And which of our stars have got that? 2 Years or go to the Scum. We can't have these type of players hold us to ransom. He's done nothing of significance. Gee he bloody wants to work out what the word defence is for a start. That's why he was dropped in the first place.

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

I don't see why people are crying foul about 4 years unless you think he would be out of the league by 23? He would've already got 2 or 3 years. 4 years just locks in an a grade potential 19 year old who offers something we don't have in a position of need and who is already best 22 (shafted by Newman on reputation in the final).

We can't lose a genuine draft hit on what I've seen this year because one club has an interest in him. Would be a a disaster. He will be better than all our recent first round picks bar maybe B Ellis.

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

Does anyone see the irony of possibly signing Lennon on a 4 year deal after dropping him for the final?

I'm sure it would leave a few scrathing their heads - 'we believe Ben has massive potential and want to lock him away on a 4 year deal' - yet a young skillful player couldn't make the squad for the first final.

Spot on

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

It all really comes down to whether Lennon wants to stay at the Tigers or not. Unfortunately I think he was harshly treated this year and missing the first final wouldn't have done us any favours. Maybe the Tigers have known for a while that Lennon wanted to go to Carlton thus the harsh treatment. Bottom line, if Lennon wants to go there's nothing we can do about it, he can just nominate for the PSD and we lose him for nothing. This is why I suspect we've honed in on Yarran. Yarran is no slouch, wants out, and without any real bargaining power he's probably the best we're going to get out of Carlton. It is ironic though that we picked Lennon at 12 and they picked Patrick Cripps at 13. 8th in average contested possessions this year, exactly what we need to help out Cotchin. Sometimes its a game of inches.

Cripps has been good, but how much of his ball winning is due to Judd, Gibbs and Murphy all missing significant chunks of the year? Don't get me wrong, he's a gun, but we needed a silky half forward as much as we needed a big bodied mid at draft time. Heck we STILL need more forward half class.

I wouldn't be keen to offer Bertie 4 years seeing he hasn't produced anything special to date.

Think he has shown some very special moments in games and happy if the Club makes him an offer at least the equal he could extract from another Club at this stage

Serious? He had a brilliant year in a very weak team. He managed 34 disposals and 11 tackles in Round 4 and 31 disposals and 12 tackles in Round 12 when Gibbs and Murphy played. He's 190cm and a machine, the big bodied midfielder we're sorely lacking. Of course it's hindsight, my comment was really about how ironic we're apparently now looking to trade Lennon to Carlton. I am hoping we keep Lennon but if it's a forgone conclusion we could do worse than Yarran considering we have no bargaining power.

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

I have a man crush on Cripps..... I can't believe he as pick 13.

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

Geez we better not lose Lennon over a a dispute of a couple of years.

Just sign the kid at low money. Can't lose.

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

We better get used to Lennon being gone.

The coach clearly doesn't rate him, he doesn't play him, so why would he stay?
