Ben Lennon

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

Trading Lennon would be a huge mistake.

Lennon is gunna make it

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

I don't normally do this, but I'm stuck somewhere and have little to do for the next hour before I'm swamped until night. I'd like people to understand exactly what a Lennon for Yarran trade would look like when you factor in time (per year) with each year equally-weighted:

Excuse my lowsy Paint skills :hihi

Basically, if you want that middle blue bar instead of the bottom blue bar, you need to give up the entire red bar.

I acknowledge the assumption that the FA deal would be a formality when in reality it's not a guarantee. But this was the problem I had with the Shaun Hampson trade. When you 'pay' for something that you are likely to get 1 year later for free, then you're effectively only paying for that 1 year. When the cost is likely to be a 12 year talent, the mind boggles.

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

Considering Yarran wants out and is one year from FA, I can't see Lennon for Yarran as a good deal for us.

But looking forward to having Yarran in the yellow and black.

Why on earth would we exchange 10 years of Ben Lennon for 1 additional year of Chris Yarran?

The other argument is why would we give up Lennon for nothing when we can get Yarran in an exchange. If Lennon wants Carlton there's absolutely nothing we can do to stop him, it just becomes a question of finding adequate compensation.

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

Pick 19 & Yarran for Lennon makes sense, except for the part where Lennon agrees to go to the blues.

But we can do something about it, give him a longer contract, realistically he's shown enough that its highly doubtful we would get rid of him within 4 years and he doesn't seem injury prone.

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

lennon was incredibly impressive...played like a young delideo..great hands and feet....i prey we dont let him go...he is gunno be a great footballer....

Agree. This isn't a questionable 27 year old. He's a promising 20 year old. If he was to sign on for 2 years, I'd guarantee we'd be giving him another 2 year deal at the end of 2017. Let's skip the crap in between, and the prospect of losing him over something so silly.

Carlton have plenty of cap space, a 1.6 million deal wouldn't be out of the question. Are we willing to pay this amount?

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

What if it came down to letting Lennon go to be able to afford a Bennell type ? I like Lennon & want to keep him , just wondering if he is asking for more than we currently offering & we holding back as that extra money being used to lure players

I have a hunch that his manager has shopped him around on Lennons go ahead. Just my opinion though of course. Dusty's manager did a few years back , mind you i think Dusty had a fair few more runs on the board than Lennon has right now.

Wouldn't be suprised if Carlton have offered 400k a year x 4 years or something like that and we won't go past 2 years and probably around the 250-300k mark per year.

He could well just be a player totally after $ and thinks he deserves that type of number now.

From the rumours the only difference is the contract length. IMHO it just seems the club is being a bit too unbending with regard to some situations.

Maybe the club has certain criterias in place who knows, maybe we don't offer 2nd year players anything longer than 2 years and maybe lennon wants 4 .
If we do bend and give him then it could upset the apple cart with diff players , who knows.

Dunno. We've resigned all our stars. Our footy manager is an ex player agent so he'll know exactly what is fair and what games people play.

I wouldn't be keen to offer Bertie 4 years seeing he hasn't produced anything special to date.

Said this earlier, a 4 year deal will look like a bargain if he keeps on his current trajectory.

Still can't believe he was dropped for the final.

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

We may well be jumping at shadows but if the rumours are true then I am starting to lose a little respect for a 19yo trying to bend his club over to get a 4 year contract after a fairly modest first 2 years. (I still don't know why he wouldn't want a 2 year contract and then demand real coin once he reaches his potential).

Time will tell.

This the precise reason I have no issue giving him 4 years. Helps us more than it helps him.

Would be interesting to see what Ellis, Vlaustin and the likes got for there new contracts when they were second year players .

4 years? Give me a break. He's done nothing to deserve that.
