Thought White left for job security - we weren't prepared to offer more than one year contract whereas Port gave him 2 or 3. Reportedly on similar coin.
And ottens walked for more money didn't he?

Also Stewart maxf. And lambert to Brisvegas, Also in 80s Cloke, Raines, other stars left for the $$

Carlton have gotten in this kids ear and offered him good dollars, Which has inflated his expectations of his contract at Richmond football Club

He was/is a carlton supporter and Father is a mad blues man, so it wouldnt be too difficult to get him to cross over (specially when you effectively can throw 450k which is chris yarran dollars at him)
.......
Correct about his dad being a Carlton supporter (I met him last year), so that does complicate things if in fact Carlton want to make a play for the kid.

Lennon will also have to consider that Carlton will be 5+ years away from playing in finals while the opportunities at Richmond in that time frame will be far greater, so unless you are really patient and willing to slog it out for at least half a decade in a side rebuilding from nothing then moving to that environment for a few extra dollars could be something to regret over the next few Septembers as your old side has an involvement.

Speaking of player retention history, let's all take a moment to reflect on Carlton.
Yeah, if Ben is even thinking of going there, he'd be well advised to look at how they treat their players.

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

I just look at it this way

If i was in bens position and playing for another club and not yet best 22 , And my club Richmond was to aproach me and say hey ben we want to pay you 400-450 a year NOW and you will play every game.

I am 19-20 years old and my future has another 10 years , I would be thinking sure we will be *smile* for about 3-4 years then we could be in a similar position to my current team and in the meanwhile i have earned 1.6 million compared to 700k playing for the club i supported growing up

I think i would come to the club i supported, In bens case Carlton

I think we have a lot of work to do to keep Lennon to be honest

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

Where has this offer from Carlton of $400-450k per year come from? Another 'fact' created on here, or does it actually have some substance?

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

500 a year! Isn't Dusty on 650?
Learn your spot mate. 350 To 400 for a two year contract. Show us what you've got than talk Dollars.

He heard it from a bloke who is well-connected to a guy whose uncle once got into the Blues change rooms after a match in 1993

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

Have heard that Lennon for Yarran is just about a done deal. Not sure how I feel about this one but if Ben wants to leave then so be it.

Looks to me its 2=2=5. Turk mentioned Yarran was on $450k and said that Carlton would then have that free. I would be staggered if Carlton were to offer Ben anywhere near to $450k at this point of his development.

Ps. The uncontested argument is rubbish, he averaged 4.6 CP this year compared to 7.2 UP this year. Compares fairly well to other outside players. Sure he isn't a contested beast but he does get involved in the contest far more than last year when he averaged 2.6 CP.

Hope not a straight swap? Hope theres a pick or a swap of picks in there. If he wants out then I'm ok with Yarran and a swap of 2nd rounders. We should be able to use that pick to pick up Redden. I'd be happy to get Yarran and Redden in exchange for our 2nd and Lennon. Our 2nd is unlikely to get us a gun this year in a poor draft. Will be somewhere around pick 40 this year.

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

Not liking straight up..... Lennon is 1st rd pick with lots of upside.
Yarran is a downhill skier with diminishing value... In saying that Ben can leave and go PSD which would hurt so we take what we can get if he says he's off

Don't know if there will be steak knives but given Yarran is still only 24 I wouldn't think we'll get much in return.

No deal.

Astbury for Yarran.

Interesting BH. I have heard he is staying and is not part of any Yarran deal .

Depends who you talk to I guess

That's a ridiculous trade. If that's the option then tell Carlton and Yarran 'thanks but no thanks' and get the hell out of there. Lennon is going to be a gun and has a huge upside, Yarran is just a big sook and cannon fodder. I'm not sure why we are into him at all. I hope Richo and co. haven't lost the plot up there. This is make or break time for the clubs on-field fortunes.

Scoop Mclure saying Lennon for Yarran and Barrett saying Lennon not part of the deal for Yarran. For once I hope Barrett is on the money.

Hmmm, straight trade clearly is best result for Carlton. Carlton link comes up with a trade that clearly favours them, funny that.
