Ben Lennon

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

Alot of glass half empty going on here. Maybe Ben is trying to increase his wages by performing in the Ones

They had a tape of his highlights from his game a couple of weeks ago on the RFC site.

I was pleasantly surprised by his intensity in that clip.

He is a lovely contested mark and a lovely kick. I see no reason we cant find a spot for him up forward or on a wing despite questions on his pace.

Yep I like what I saw on that clip. A bit of inside work and neat skills. Plus a mark running back with the flight which showed balls I didn't think he had.

I'm still bullish about him.

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

Highlight clips..not to many lowlight clips on the interwebz.
Go and watch Ben play and you'll realise he doesn't work hard enough which is ultimately why he's not getting selected.

Point is Oldie, there was an urgency and intensity in his play which was pleasing.

The clean hands, good marking and great kicking were never an issue.

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

His kicking is excellent. Be more than happy when he's sending it into the forward half in the ones soon enough.

Oh it's clear he's got talent lamby. That's not the problem here.
No issue with the club making him work hard in the VFL for a senior spot. It's the least I expect.
If he gets a go he's going to find the AFL a heck of a shock to the system in terms of required work rate.
It will triple in intensity and he'll get completely lost if he doesn't keep up with it. The odd nice kick won't cut it.

I don't presume to speak for him, but I don't that's what lamb was saying. He said there were signs of intensity at the contest, which were promising. The skills were always there and shouldn't ever be an issue.

The thing is he gets more than the odd nice kick, he provides more skill than Gordon, more intensity than Newman (now) and more composure smarts and just about everything other than star jumps than Morris.

Didn't seemed to be phased by the pace of the game in his first game when he kicked two ripper goals in a quarter and a bit.

The thing is as Handbrake intimated in his presser today he prioritises toughness over football acumen.

Unless Ben, Matt and Liam start dragging their knuckles on the floor they'll find it hard to communicate with Handbrake.

Thanks Stylo. That too!

How'd he go in round 5 against the Cats?

The odd kick. 1 to be exact. :hihi

So an improvement on Morris's 0 kicks in round 1, 4 and last week!

Ben's an icing type of player IMO, he'll play better when in a better side. At that point we were playing horrible football. A guy who relies on extractors won't find much of the ball if they're not winning it to begin with, or butchering it when they do. Chuck him in to our side on current form and I reckon he'd go alright.

It's worth a go Stylo. Pleasingly last week his VFL game seems to have been better.
His game against the Cats was terrible regardless of the footy we were playing at the time but we need to see what he's got sooner or later.
The Aints is a good time to bring him in I hope..

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

He had one H.Taylor as an opponent in the Cats game.

No doubt Ben's getting some tough love. No doubt he needs to toughen up and work harder. He's still a baby.

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

Once he builds a decent tank n learns the running patterns etc, his skills would be fairly handy on the opposite wing to B. Ellis, Grigga's old role. Then K.Mac to the inner midfield beast role. Still think Lennon's got enough to be a decent player for us n will phase out a more mature list clogger at seasons end.

I'm definitely sticking with him and want to see him get games.

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

Will ultimately be a very good player for the Tigers.
He's been in the system two years. Sure there are high expectations, but there are a few other players on the list that have been given years and years to prove their worth and which some are still struggling to show, despite getting games in the seniors.
Lennon will change and adapt, develop and improve and then his skills will be the sublime addition to a high-functioning successful Tiger team.

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

Lennon's manager understands how the system works, talks are put on hold re his contract and he gets promoted to the 1's the same week.

I believe his selection was somewhat forced as if he had signed the contract no need to give him a 1's game. Because he didn't sign and if the player perceives he is being dealt with unfairly he may well walk at seasons end.

I don't understand the politics of club selection but I do believe that some players that are selected are not in the best 22 but due to politics are selected ahead of those players who are better than themselves.
