I would have thought that there have been some lessons learned about players maturing at different rates for all of us to see in recent times. I posted on the Shane edwards thread that a few years ago the most maligned players on this site were Jacko, Rance and Edwards. Many gave up on Griffiths as well.

Footballers with lot of talent like Lennon always are a big chance to come good as long as they get the basics right, train hard and get the mental side of the game together. Maybe that hasn't happened for him yet. The kid is 19 years old and has lots of talent and I suspect the finishing touches are being applied to him and he is still learning the AFL style game.

I wouldn't mind having a few $ on him becoming a very good player but it may not happen for a year or two yet.

Understand what your saying, and it's a good point Sin.

But have posted a few times, think he has more than application issues.

He also has some decent physical limitations for his role that will be difficult to overcome ILO.

Reckon he'll need to redefine himself as an inside mid. He'll get every chance because of where he was taken but it won't be easy.

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

people need to remember here he had surgery post last season & no pre season as a result.....
was next in line for a spot at the end of last year as well

If he has application issues - as many of us keyboard warriors believe - if it won't be easy, it won't happen

He needs to develop some serious tricks up his sleeve a la Cyril or Winston Abraham if he is to be a downhill skiier in this team

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

No hurry for me.

Lets get our four first year players established and playing well and then think about Lennon

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

He has asked for contract talks to be held off until the end of the year.

Not sure what to make of that. He could be a reasonable target for other clubs, with nothing in return for us.

Being out of contract puts the pressure on the club (since he could walk), which his form does not, currently.

figjam, never understood the hype before he was drafted and has yet show anything to change my mind.

Surely its because he wants to demonstrate a stake for a higher contract value with second half of the year performances and not to hold the club to ransom. He was taken higher in the draft than what other clubs rated him and we have put a lot of effort into his development - he had a lot to work on defensively and in the contested area Seems to be making inroads. would be a dog act to leave for more money at this stage.

Makes sense to me, holding out for further opportunities to perform.

i think i agree with this. he has become a bit of a 'who?' guy. but that could be because 'passengers' have kept him out of the team. on the other hand others have stepped it up. Ben Limbo.

Where did you hear that BTW?

Don't believe the recent hype on VFL performances either looks like a player going through the motions on my obs.

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

Restricted and limited movement to where he might want to play. Shown little to demand huge interest elsewhere, still learning the caper. Not loosing any sleep here.

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

Nothing wrong with holding off contracts. We would've offered him a low-paying 2-year contract. His mates from the same draft have been getting games (at worst clubs) while being offered big money contracts and he would believe he's as good / better than them.

The bigger issue is that he doesn't look like becoming the player the recruiters thought.

Hardwick will have a stern word to Lennon about what he needs to do if he wants a better offer. Hope those conversations are a reality check for him.

Agreed.

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

2013 not looking that good (Draft wise). Lennon (7 games - 2 goals) .. then Gordon (13 games - 12 goals) . Lloyd ( 9 games - 13 goals) and Pettard (29 games - 16 goals @ Richmond)

Highest pick for the lowest return to date. Not saying he wont "be a player" but one who should accept a contract and work his butt off to make the grade.

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

Hopefully he gets a crack on Sunday.

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

Bizarre if he wants to leave given he will have no control over where he goes.

Maybe we've told him he'll be traded to GWS in a package for Treloar >:D
