Good or bad to see leysy wasn't seeing things when had the slows on him early & got knocked about for it.

Still fail to see A) What we saw at draft time and B) How we can turn him into AFL level player now.

His has some poor physical & mental traits that means he's up against it ILO.

Ten pints* says he plays 200 games and makes AA selection squad, brother. Even money.

(Ten pints as a bet. I don't mean the ten I've just had for breakfast. ;D)

Even money? I'd take that bet and I think he'll make it!

Good to hear
In the scheme of things - so what if he takes an extra bunch of time to get himself up to the class that he is capable of displaying.
If he becomes a long term 10 year contributor for RFC - will we worry that his apprenticeship took 2 years compared to some others?

Exactly - Obviously a 19 year old kid not quite ready yet but has exquisite skills.

Just needs time!

Good post. Watts is an excellent example of a skilled player who hasn't cut the mustard, despite playing 100 games of AFL footy.

Indeed Jack is as was Richie Tambling.

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

I don't think Watts is a good comparison at all. He doesn't want it; Lennon does, fiercely. His lack of pace and a step is currently holding him back. When he builds the strength to break the tackles he can't outrun, he'll arrive. And then the rest of his skillset will make him a very good player.

We must be watching a different Lennon then.

The last 2 Richmond VFL games I have seen him play he has been quite soft IMO.

Doesn't mean he doesn't make nor that he won't harden up. Plenty of softies have.

No it doesn't and I believe it is a confidence thing myself however he certainly hasn't been hard at it from what I have seen in recent times.

You're on, snake. But you have to cover the fares.

That was my take from Sunday's game. I mentioned in the VFL thread that he absolutely shat himself under a high ball on the weekend. Didn't look good

I still haven't forgotten a game a few years ago where a very young Jarryd Roughead, playing in defence against Sydney, pulled out of a marking contest against a rampaging Barry Hall who leapt over him in the goal-square.

Nineteen year olds playing against men will do that, especially in these days where the biggest hardship they have experienced whilst growing up is the queue full of nannas at the buffet during the family holiday on the Fairstar Fun Ship.

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

Did Ben think because he trained with the club as a youth he would just walk into the side?

Clearly has ability.

Hope he isn't a wasted 1st rounder, with the expansion debacle, we can't afford to get it wrong.

Leading the tackle count for our VFL side suggests he's not just plodding along effortlessly.

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

I would have thought that there have been some lessons learned about players maturing at different rates for all of us to see in recent times. I posted on the Shane edwards thread that a few years ago the most maligned players on this site were Jacko, Rance and Edwards. Many gave up on Griffiths as well.

Footballers with lot of talent like Lennon always are a big chance to come good as long as they get the basics right, train hard and get the mental side of the game together. Maybe that hasn't happened for him yet. The kid is 19 years old and has lots of talent and I suspect the finishing touches are being applied to him and he is still learning the AFL style game.

I wouldn't mind having a few $ on him becoming a very good player but it may not happen for a year or two yet.
