Ben Lennon

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

He did sneak onto the emergency list for the Pies game so it's not like he's completely out-of-favour.

Yes, he's a worry and won't get any quicker but is worth another two-year contract. That said, he might start looking elsewhere, like Princes Park.

Only position I can see him playing is a half forward flanker.

The problem is, half forward in the AFL now requires elite fitness levels.

Lennon is a long way from possessing any sort or running power.

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

I worry about a player who is on the verge of selection and he dosent quite attack the pill at 100%

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

Good or bad to see leysy wasn't seeing things when had the slows on him early & got knocked about for it.

Still fail to see A) What we saw at draft time and B) How we can turn him into AFL level player now.

His has some poor physical & mental traits that means he's up against it ILO.

I feel like I'm in crazy town. He's 19 FFS.

Yeah its a bit like that. I remember people writing off Ben Griffiths after 2 years. Just as well we didnt listen to them and persisted with him

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

Way way too early to put a line through his name.
He is a natural forward and we need them.
Nice kick nice mark, needs to work on his tank

The mental side of it is more worrying than his lack of footskills imo. Some definite attitude concerns, but time is on his side.

whats gets me is dimma still see's morris as a better option than lennon or mcdonna

agree

mcdonough had a big game in the twos though & morris isn't getting better. I reckon there's a chance mcdonough may come in, not sure about morris going out though, he's definitely a coach favourite, but should definitely be dropped on form

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

Can someone shed some light on his 'attitude issues'? I seem to have missed this.

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

Didn't the Beatle have some clean up surgery on his hips over summer?
Pretty sure that would have impacted on his ability to add extra to his tank or explosiveness for this season. Second year kid so plenty of time to get a year of games into him against older players and then bang a bigger pre season into him over summer.

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

From RFC on his most recent game-

Ben Lennon
17 disposals, one goal
Took a while to get involved in the contest, but had a much better second half. Showed his class, when delivering the ball by foot inside 50. Every time he touched the footy, it seemed to result in a shot at goal for us. We expect him to dominate this level of football. Hopefully this week, he can do the same thing, and start really pushing for senior selection.

Lots of growing n developing still to come, but this is why he won't be leaving anytime soon.

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

Good to hear
In the scheme of things - so what if he takes an extra bunch of time to get himself up to the class that he is capable of displaying.
If he becomes a long term 10 year contributor for RFC - will we worry that his apprenticeship took 2 years compared to some others?

Nobody would mind a 2-year apprenticeship if he goes on to have a 10 year career. The concern is not the wait itself, it's the growing prospect of not meeting expectations at all.

It's not a prospect at all, it's fear. There is no prospect of him not meeting expectations just because at aged 19 he isn't playing regular senior footy

Lennon is a highly skilled footballer and because of that I think he will be a terrific player for us. He just isn't ready yet, as many 19 year olds aren't. Just because some are doesn't mean everybody should be.

I watch him at VFL level and he look a class above at times but to me he just hasn't worked out how to get enough of the footy and be consistent throughout games. It will come but i don't think he will be a permanent forward, I think he will be a wing/ halfback who can pinch a goal from time to time.

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

Some of the complaints sound a lot like those made about Jack Watts. Classy skills, decent size, differing opinions about his best position/role. Hopefully he has the determination to get the best out of himself that Watts appears to lack.

Good post. Watts is an excellent example of a skilled player who hasn't cut the mustard, despite playing 100 games of AFL footy.

Skills are important no doubt but only part of the game.

Clearly the coaching staff are wanting more from Lennon in other areas before he plays senior football.

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

i havent seen much of the vfl but in 3 game he has averaged about 17 disposals and kicked 5 goals. not bad numbers.
