Hoping he would take a step up his year but seems to be lost on the field.

I don't think it is you 7, he is struggling, like a lot of others at Tigerland at the moment. Even when our AFL players go back to VFL level, they rarely dominate

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

The thing that has really surprised me at VFL level this year is his overhead ability.

As in, not just on the lead, but contested grabs with serious heat coming at him.

He doesn't lack guts.

He has seriously sticky hands.

Like Deledio he could play third tall.

People have to realize that his lack of foot speed is compensated by other skills. You can drop it on his head.

You could do worse than this down the track:

Deledio Riewoldt Lennon
Edwards Griffiths McBean

He has all the tools.

Have heard some stories from those close to him at the knights and am not surprised he's taking some time to settle in.

I hope the club persists... I hope he does too

Fully agree on Lennon i.e. that he potentially has many attributes other than absolute raw speed.
And like a broken record - I just want to see him played for a good run of games so that he has the chance to develop and display those attributes.

Was watching an old Foxtel replay the other day. Leon Cameron wasn't lightning quick either - but sure showed great skills especially the ability to hit targets.

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

he is not named in the VFL this week so is either going to Tassie or is unavailable.

I think we'd kill for another player with Cameron's skill off either foot. I don't understand the rationale behind playing a kid for a game and then dropping him unless he's named amongst the bests. How does that give them any consistency of experience and what sort of message does it send?

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

Much as leysy has question marks on Ben, the point re: run of games is very true.

Since the other two emergencies were both named for the VFL side, and the VFL side also plays on Sat, I'd assume that Lennon is the traveling emergency.

I would have picked him again.
Dimma's development of younger players is questionable (just about everything is atm).
How are players like McD, Arnot & Lennon supposed to get better if they don't get a consecutive run of games at the top level?
Heaven forbid they might actually improve if they get used to the pace of the game.

Indeed. Kids needs blocks of games to get better. One in, for three quarters is completely useless.

Lennon kicked four in a interclub game when he spent his week at the club from the AIS. The club and the players loved him. His TAC year wasn't as great as was hoped and his carnival was ok, nothing special. We put a lot of stock into that one interclub as opposed to what he ACTUALLY produced and how he tested at draft camp. From memory I don't think his draft camp number were all that great. The club needs to make it work, this was very much a "insiders" pick.

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

I'm with everyone else. He may not make it, but giving him a game and then dropping him isn't going to tell us anything. If he and others were allowed the same latitude that has been extended to others on the list then we may actually find out if he's got what it takes to go the journey.

I remember all the articles on Lennon were that he would be a huge steal outside the top 10.

Suspect he may well be a late change for Lids if the weather and ground looks tough

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

If the kid isn't dominating at either level in his second year I'm not phased. He's growing into his skin and game.

A lot of punters have commented on how he's bulked up over his second pre-season. Very hard to do that and get a decent tank at the same time - if you're not an aerobic athlete. Doesn't mean he's not trying.

From the little I've seen I like him a lot - just what we need - a footballer with all the skills. Maybe not precocious but a natural.

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

If the kid has any talent it will be slowly sucked out of him due to a complete lack of confidence. When you can afford to gift games to Newman, Morris and Chaplin, then you can afford to give these kids at least a 4 block window of games to show something.

How on earth do they analyse their games down at Richmond!! If he is given a four match run and underperforms in every game then fine, drop him. Not after one bloody game. Same with Madonna and other young players.

Makes me think how Dimma wouldve developed as a coach using the same methods. RD 1 2010 LOSS, "sorry Dim , we,re putting back to coach the VFL until you iron out your deficiencies"....and so on after every loss. Makes it hard to develop I'd guess.

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

Must be pointed out that he hasn't had a preseason yet and had very little running ability when drafted. With the size he added over the preseason I'm surprised he's even running out VFL games as strongly as he is. Give him time.

Yeah, Dimma doesn't reward 3-possession performances from our forwards enough :-X Did you see that burst through the middle by Morris that lead to a Vickery goal? That one piece of play was more than anything Lennon produced. Here's the reality with Ben:

His offensive game was worse than Morris last week.
I repeat: Lennon had less impact than Morris with the ball last week.

Now let that sink in.

...Has it sunk it yet? And Steve is picked on defensive intensity, something Ben is currently terrible at. Face it, Ben was crap. You want to reward that performance by gifting him a month of matches?!
