Ben Lennon

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

Urban Dictionary says............
a person or a group of people believing their own lies and propaganda. The effects of doing this can be comical, e.g., Baghdad Bob, but this is usually the harbinger of the demise of the practitioner(s).

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

I think we have to persevere with Lennon. Seems like a rabbit in the headlights at the moment, he needs to feel like he belongs and can take a few risks. Confidence will turn him around.

He was pretty useless, but what else do we have?

Hmmm, so Frank has screwed us again?

Look at who was taken afterwards. Given junior ratings, there wasn't a smorgasbord of choice for Frank. Same as Vlaustin's year. (I'd have preferred a true mid though like Cripps, rather than take a hff and try to convert to a mid).

Yep - just gotta bite the bullet and give this bloke and C Ellis games.

Salem was FJs chosen one that year. Either FJ knew the talent would drop away after Pick 9/10 or he didn't. If there's not much available at Pick 12 - trade it, don't sit and hope Salem slides. Lennon was a bit of a backup selection, and even then, he was partly selected due to a pressing need for forwards.

Rule #1: Always select best talent available with your first rounder
Rule #2: If you've got a pick just after the cliff, trade it for maximum value (either by trading up, or trading it away for a young player).

Seems like we sat and hoped for a slide, then went for the best forward flanker available as backup. It might pay off, but it would be through too much luck than you'd want from a 750k process.

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

I hope they keep him in and get some more games into him. We need to see if he can offer anything.

That said I am not very impressed with what I have seen thus far. He doesn't have any tricks and is slow.

Really?

5 of the next 6 taken are showing more than plenty.

Zak Jones was leysy's strong selection for our pick. That still stands BTW.

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

The players picked Lennon, did they not? After his junior stay?

Vlasutin's year there was Grundy. How we overlooked a op 3 pick all year that fell into our lap, I don't know. Not like we didn't need a ruck coming through.

I haven't written Lennon off but Cripps, Luke Dunstan, Zac Jones, Blake Acres, Billy Hurting or Matt Coruch (who I was big on) were all enablers sitting on the board.

There was choice. It was our ratings that come up with these picks. And everyone across the country knew these two picks before they happened. Same with Conca. Same with Ellis.

For four straight years, our first round pick has been common knowledge for 24 hours before the draft.

Looks like it would definitely be a recruiting error rather than a strategic error then.

Gee we could use Cripps' size at the contest. Still have high hopes for Lennon though.

nione of them look, like being stars , apart from say crouch that has been promising , is he inj right now?

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

The only 2 I recall being talked up highly were Cripps and Zak Jones. (Just my memory).
I favoured Zak as well, but would take Cripps.
Lennon seemed like a "needs" pick, as we've drafted a bunch of HF types that haven't worked out. Like we keep going to the well.
I don't think McCarthy would be doing so well with us. Having Cameron helps him big time.

Apart from Grundy, there was nothing in that draft after Vlaustin.

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

The push for Lennon was always his good ball use for memory.

Unfortunately he cant get his hands on the thing to actually kick it well.

Half back might be an option but would be exposed for pace.

If he is going to make it down forward, he will need to improve his marking.

Huge question marks all around - on him, the pick and whether we simply picked him because he spent a week at the club.

If you believe what your saying is correct (and you wouldn't say it otherwise).

The above is a pretty big slight on Frank.

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

Might be a big slight on Hardwick and/or Blair too. Frank always said use the first pick on best available talent and only use later picks that way, when you're splitting between multiple choices (eg Rance vs S Selwood).
*If* they've said to him, go get us a half forward, and he was deemed around the right level of talent......there he is.

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

is it me or is Lennon struggling.
Hoping he would take a step up his year but seems to be lost on the field.
