Ben Lennon

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

Only getting a cameo performance time but whilst he obviously has potential his footballing brain is not AFL standard yet. A few more shifts at VFL level will help him big time

disagree, keep him in the fire! make him learn on the best!

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

Lennon simply has to play every game possible from here t season's end. he is very much a BIG part of any future success. Get as much experienced and game-time into the young fella. If he can't handle the heat, so be it. better to find out about him at the coal face than down in the VFL. Plus, I'm confident he has the smarts and abilities to be a very good player for the Tigers.

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

7 possession's in just over quarter did some smart thing's in close .

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

needs to either play the whole game or go back to the VFL. He needs more time playing.

Yep I'd be running him for a whole game or three instead of subbing him in.

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

Does anyone think he wore the wrong stops on Saturday night?

Seemed to be called on late, could not keep his feet and spend longer on the bench than expected..

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

Shouldn't be dropped. You cannot critique a performance on 10 minutes game time.

Pretty sure it was less than a quarter. Thought I remembered us not pulling the trigger on the sub till the last. Lennon has skill and smarts, he just needs proper game time. With Jacko and Conca back though he's probably gonna see out the season in the VFL.

Edit: Forget this, I replied to an old post from a previous game

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

He was crucified by the coach on Saturday night.

I hate hate hate hate putting young inexperienced players on as the sub. I don't see the point. They're less likely to impact a contest, and it's horrible for their confidence and development.

Most young players need a chance to work their way into a game. Their first touches are usually shaky, and they need to get their hands to a few to remember that they can play and that they're here for a reason.

This went to the extreme on Saturday, when Lennon was thrown into the fire as we'd just conceded a pretty comfortable lead, momentum was all the crows way, and the game was as hot and as high pressure as a game comes.

There you go, Ben, jump in cold and win us the game.

He got himself to a few contests, but the pressure was immense.

Lennon to play next week, Newman the sub to get himself fresh for his last game round 23. To be announced before the game and rev the boys up enough to get over a full strength Sydney.

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

Didn't get subbed on till the 15 minute mark of the last quarter

That's an old post.

That last ten minutes was worth 10 games to him. He got to see the level of intensity that was required.

Damned if you - damned if you don't.
He might have come on when we were coasting to an easy win - but OK that didn't happen.
Instead he comes on in a crucial high pressure situation. His first action is to fumble the slippery ball. And who knows - that might have knocked his confidence rotten like you say and potentially been a setback.
But in the end he made a contribution and he's experienced a sensational fighting win.
So maybe it'll be something that becomes a real positive in the long term.

Next week could be Newies last home game. If the decision has been made, he will want to start in that game. If the decision hasn't been made by now, I suspect he will carry on next year.

Let's hope.

Playing inexperienced players as the sub is a bugbear of mine. I know a number of coaches stay away from it. Because of the potential for situations like Saturday. Let's hope Lennon gets something out of it. Worst situation for him now is if he's dropped.

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

The young fella will be all the better for his baptism of fire on Saturday night. And he got to play in a mighty winning side.
I would play him against the Saints, but I suspect he might be dropped this week.

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

Needs to toughen up a bit. I have a feeling he's playing 'scared' a little bit at the moment and have noticed similar earlier in the year.

However he's only a first year player and I'm not going to pot him! Just think if he develops a tougher approach his footy will develop quite nicely.
