Ben Lennon

Gets a reprieve for me for Friday.

Pressure is obviously on him if he wants to be playing in Round 1.

Think Dimma was experimenting with a quicker line up with Butler, Rioli and Castagna playing the majority of the game and that the FF role doesn't suit Lennon.

Lennon is more of a HFF for mine. Needs room to move for him to better utilise his marking on the lead.

Agree with the lead and marking but dont think modern footy will suit Ben, its chaos football.
Certainly cant carry both Lennon and Lloyd in the same team. Sammy has the runs on the board so the spot should be his to lose.

It's truly crisis time for him. On Friday night Ben Lennon saw exactly what we saw. He knows.

What's the go with Lennon then Dyer?
Was he defensive forward locking down the rebounder, or was he a go to scoring option?
What was his role, and how did he go, what did he do right, and what did he do wrong?

Maybe his job was just to run hard kilometres? We don't get GPS data in the basic stats.

Unfortunately, DDT, his role was to get a kick. Sure, he had to form up forward, mostly. But he got a run up the park at times. And he still couldn't get a kick. There were a couple of times when the ball was about to hit his hands, or did actually hit his hands, and he still couldn't get it.

His football ability was utterly degraded. Before his eyes.

It would take Ben Lennon a thousand times more effort to resuscitate his delusion than to embrace brutal reality. If he's still talking about vibrancy this week it might be time to whack him over the head with a shovel. I don't think he will be.

This kind of crisis is good. It just hurts a lot.

Good thing if he's determined to improve.
That game against Adelaide was pleasing but doesn't mean we'll be in the top 8 when it matters.
Nor does it means Lennon and others won't have a good year.

He's faced with a simple choice, DDT. It's up to him. As it stands he's delistable IMO.

I thought that with Vickery and Lids leaving there was a good chance for Lennon to make that 3 tall/ish forward spot his own. But with Caddy, Dusty, Cotch, Shed, Grigga and Flossy all rotating forward and Deano up there as well i think he might be lucky to get a game.
I hope he plays the next two practice matches and does well, but i'm not sure if there is going to be a spot for him.

I've watched the game again and to be honest I dont think the coaches will be too upset with his game. He competed well and his efforts and pressure contributed to a few scores.

i think that's what the coaches are looking for, we know he can kick and mark and has forward smarts.

I think he plays again against Port.

There's no place for Lennon moving forward. Will struggle to get a game ahead of Lloyd and is obviously not athletic enough for a defensive rebound role. Butchered pick I'm afraid but time to move on. Frank has redeemed himself with Rioli so I'm not too fussed.

I spent a considerable amount of time watching him at the ground lamby. Especially after the 4 goals in the intraclub game.
His workrate just isn't there. I very much doubt the coaches will be pleased.

Rioli was a bolter, in fact we'd settled on Ah Chee only to be trumped by GC at the last minute. Then there's the two bids we placed before calling out Dan's number. It was a brave pick but the methodology was sound - athlete & upside without a huge amount of exposed form. Very un-Frank like but a turn for the better.

No one had Rioli as our first pick except for 1 or 2 footballing doyens.

Your finest moment on PRE, but you did disappoint the Daniel Smith fans out there.

George and Lloyd are still improving. Poor Ben was already giving them a start. He's further away from a spot in the 22 than he's ever been.
