He is a prime example of a player that is over coached.
He is not allowed to run to the real dangerous hotspots to receive the ball as he would be getting in Jack's way.
Lennon is an instinctive footballer and unfortunately our coach does not encourage this as much as he should.
A game plan is a game plan BUT in the heat of the battle sometimes you need to take the bull by the horns and go with your gut feel.
I'm not sure if certain players, including Lennon, are allowed to do this.
By strictly following team rules you may have games where you appear to be totally ineffective. Don't blame the player in these circumstances.

He is a prime example of a player who isn't much chop. He's is lazy, doesn't have many tricks, and the tricks he does have are overrated. Not allowed to run to dangerous spots? Free flowing Instinct crushed by the evil dour coach? Serious? Do you actually believe this?

This. He's being instructed to apply constant defensive pressure and is sacrificing his offensive game. Hardwick is the worst coach for him. Some of his defensive pressure was quite good but overall he doesn't have the pace to be great defensively and as a result was quite poor. He'd be more effective as an offensive weapon with his leading marking and kicking but he spent the game chasing arse.

Where do you start? If he was hyper-talented you might make a case, just. He isn't. The best attacking forwards are good defensively, red hot defensively, its a non-negotiable. The days of Allan Jakovich and Adrian McAdam are long gone.

I know you dogmatically think all our woes are down to Dimma, but this is clutching at straws.

Harsh. But (mostly) fair. I'm afraid my perception will always be influenced by his last 20 minutes in the BIG GEELONG CHOKE of 2016.

Mine too. He was dirty because he didn't get a game in the EF, that was an opportunity to show what you can do if ever there was one. To say he blew it is an understatement.

Dan Rioli on the other hand.... But he must just be lucky because Dimma lets him run to dangerous spots.

Why not try utilising his strengths?

I see no evidence that it hasn't been tried. But to explain away the requirement to be good defensively as somehow stifling his natural game is nonsense.

I'm prepared to give him another go because this year it's all about vibrancy, and that's what he brings to the club.

the biggest shame of it is, we missed the opportunity to stooge Carlton.

I was bullish about Ben at his draft. I wanted him.

and I hate saying negative things about blokes.

But, hes a bust. The sooner he becomes a small town hero in the bush, the better for all concerned IMO.

Agree with this. I'm no fan of Dimma but he's not to blame for Lennon (Francis Jackson cops that for using pick 12 on a slow half forward who kicks and marks OK but can't actually get the ball).

Lennon is just not up to it.

This. He was woeful. Just didn't put in. It was a cat of a performance.

Put himself up for trade and surprise surprise no one else wanted him so we are stuck with him. I guess the rest of the AFL sees him for what he is.

Vibrancy hey? What's vibrant about a 2 possession performance in an entire game of football?

The bright side is if BL fails in this attempt as our medium forward it opens the door for Dimma to play......

STEVE MORRIS!

I remember a phantom draft profile on bigfooty (yeah, I know - take it with a grain of salt) from some guy called 'Quigley' that described Lennon as having short arms, small hands, bottom 20% for burst speed (the first 5m of the 20m sprint), bottom 25% for 3km and bottom 5% for agility ... didn't really seem like a 'safe' first round pick. But hey, Diesel and Plugger would have tested worse.

Anyway, like everyone on the list, I hope he makes it. He should pley in all the remaining pre-season games

Yeah. Doubt if he'll make it now, but give him the remaining JLT games to prove it.

His best chance is as a lead up player.

Id be trying to get Lennon to play a Crameri or Stringer, Gunston or McGovern at Adelaide type target half forward role, its hard to see him playing any other role.

His options through the middle and the wings are limited by his physical limitations.

Plonk him on the ground for the whole 2 remaining JLT games and tell him your a target man who marks kicks and distributes, start presenting.

So why should the team have to adjust its structure or its game plan to accommodate mr Lennon

VFL in 2017 if he doesnt make it delist, The Rookies have shown more than this spud

Correct. Our structures and game plan don't include lead up targets.
