Ben Lennon

The best comparison I can think of for Ben Lennon's game is Adelaide's Tom Lynch.
Like Ben, Tom was taking first round (pick 13) based on skillset but both are too small to be KPP and not powerful enough (like a Stringer or Martin) to create separation at AFL level as a focal point forward flanker. Tom struggled at St.Kilda in his first 2 seasons and then reappeared in Adelaide and struggled in his 3rd season but in his 4th season as his fitness improved and he became the 6th man in a decent forward line he was able to work into space provided because defenders focused on the better forwards. Over the last 2 years Tom's stats read great but he benefits from the stacked forward line Adelaide have and opposition coaches simply have to ignore him so he gets the 6th defender and often has a decent matchup (e.g. a Houli for us who he can easily outmark). But you put him in a bad forward line and het gets matched up on a Dylan Grimes type and doesn't impact the game as much cos' the matchup is not as good for him. Ben, like Tom, is a 6th forward "matchup exploiter" who because of his great kicking skills can really burn the opposition when the matchup suits. Unfortunately for us our forward line is "a working progress" so Ben can't exploit a matchup unless Dusty plays almost permanently forward and Shai and Rioli both go berserk this season which would cause his opponent to always having to be helping out creating space for him.
But on a really good team, if he gets fit and has great workrate, like Tom, he is like a surprising little cherry on top who no one gave a crap about but has the marking and kicking skills to be a 40 goal a season player in a top team.

Griff & Jack can be potentially be close to Jenkins and Tex.
Rioli and Shai are our pressure players and need to be our Betts and Cameron
Dusty is our wild card forward like Danger was previously for Adelaide and hopefully Caddy swaps with him and then Cotch spends more time forward as well and plays like he did in 2012 when resting forward and Shedwards hopefully is fit again and impacts as well down there in bursts.
Ben (or Lloyd) then run around with a good match up getting the 4th tallest defender who is also not quick because the 2 lightning defenders had to go on the Shai and Rioli. Ben probably can exploit his height and marking better than Lloyd in a match up like this which is why if fit Sam might lose his job assuming Shai can impact.

Importantly, there is absolutely no room in our fwd line for both Lennon and Lloyd. Same type of player.

Yep, and Jack Dyer and John Nicholls and Dermott Brereton.

Except listed on the website as 188cm. Not sure where the 190cm comes from!? (Unless his vibrancy has led to a 2cm increment?)

Excellent posting as always. I see him as our third tall (6th forward).

Few more jumping on the Lennon lorry. Get onboard everyone ...

Think I'll wait to see him start performing in the real footy - against actual opposition; not intra-club.

I think you really underestimate Adelaide's Tom Lynch, Juffa. Jenkins is the beneficiary of Adelaide's star studded forward line IMO.

Athletically I think Lynch and Lennon are world's apart currently at the moment, but I hear your point that he's a good role model for Lennon given he isn't lightning quick and they are both in that medium size range.

Still think he was stiff missing out on the Elimination Final against North.Form was very good leading into that game and could of made a difference.Regardless of attitude good form is good form.Forget who we brought in for that final but from memory they done jack *smile*.

Hope he has a solid season!

Agree mate, whilst Lynch is a good type for Lennon to work towards, it's just not realistic.

Lynch earns his dollar from being the fittest bloke on the list running 150m loops from goals square to half back then back again.

He gets on the end of the chain through sheer workrate.

Lennon will never ever have that tank. He is at the absolute bottom end of aerobic capacity. It's just his makeup.

He might occasionally get you the occasional 3 goal bag with limited touches.

Best assets - clean hands overhead and a nice hoof - little else. Needs to be as good as Mark Lecras to make it.

Best comparison = Arryn Siposs.

It's a myth Lenno's form was good leading into EF in 2015.

From what i could find the below are stats from last 3 games leading to final:

RND GOALS PLAYER RATING
23 0 45
22 0 78
21 1 26

Happy to be corrected.

Just on Tom Lynch..I saw him at my local oval in Melbs putting a lot of his own work in over Christmas.
He's one fit fella. Reckon he is set for a mighty season for the Crows.
