I dont think bens a gunstan type. Id be hoping for more a ryan okeefe in an ideal world.

That was my hope as junior but I've given up on that, reckon he's got an uphill battle competing with the likes of Lloyd for the medium forward role. Perhaps he could be a Malceski/KK type?

The Jack Gunston role.

Get him 1000 hours of footage.

Has the skill set to do it.

Gunston is an aerobic running machine with decent speed. Lennon is not, nor speedy, and unlikely to ever be.

Yes, maybe aspirationally a Ryan O'Keefe type or maybe eventually a bit like Shaun Higgins.

Out of interest how did Lennon rate at Combine in speed and aerobics? Certainly wouldn't be judging him on that alone just yet. Anyone having Glandular Fever would attest it takes more than 12 months to get back to your best, let alone cut it in elite company!

Yes it does take a while to get over GF and it can return before fully over it. Did ok in last Sat's intra-club game so hope he gets back to his U18 form of classy marking and kicking. Not in top 10 results for anything except Clean Hands Test =1, 24/30. "He was among the better kicks at the Draft Combine and was a three-way winner of the handball/clean hands test. Over a five-week stretch during the Under-18 Championships with Vic Metro, he averaged 28 disposals a game running through the midfield." http://www.afl.com.au/news/2013-10-20/ben-lennon

Not a hell of a lot difference between early ROK & Jack Gunston.

Roaming forwards who floated third man up. Needs to get fitter for the role but it's the best role for him.

Fitness and football smarts are the key for him.

I hope Jack has taken him under his wing.

Yeah Nah on this one Scooper - Gunston is a 1.93m gazelle who beats his opponents with his athleticism running up then doubling back into space. Only average overhead and one on one.

They are pretty mush polar opposites of Lennon's strengths.

ROK was a pseudo midfielder. Actually he was, he was goal kicking midfield bull - Over 400 possessions in eight consecutive years including over 150 tackles in a year twice - YIKES!!

Chimp was our best last year with 92 in comparison.

Gunston's also never had 400 touches and has his career best of 71 tackles last year.

Again opposite strengths and player to ROK.

Not with you on this one at all. Either way Lennon is a gazillion miles from either though.

And like said for many years, with little support then but plenty now - Will never get there.

not to defend Scooper, but i reckon you will find that early ROK was a hff. he did not start playing midfield for a few years, and increased his possessions and tackles hugely when his role changed.

Look out - Here comes Waldorf to agree with Scoop as usual.

Your right though, ROK didn't move turn into a midfield til he was about 25.

That still shows the difference with Gunston (who we are comparing), who is that age now and showing no signs of a midfield move. Probably rightly given his attributes.

agree on Gunston. he is a light, agile KPF. ROK was an attacking hff who transformed into 2-way mid.
at present (and being generous), Lennon is probably similar to ROK early days. a goal kicking HFF. it will be very hard for him to make a career in that position though, so will need to at least be able to run up and down the wing, but preferably, with his lack of speed, play inside for periods.
i wont write him off but he hasnt shown he can do that. i reckon he lines up in the VFL rd 1.

Thankfully we have a new selection committee, im sure over past few years everyone was shacking there head at some...

Lets see if they still have their preferred options or if they play on form, time will tell, think Lennon at times wasn't a preferred option so as long as its judged on form i don't think there should be any complaints...

Yeah agree with all that (shock!)

I love the comparison of Lennon to Gunston but so far he has not shown a single thing that makes him even be good enough to tie Jack Gunston's shoe laces

Jack Gunston averages 2.1 goals a game
Ben Lennon in 19 games has kicked 9 goals

Has a very very long way to go and unlikely to make it past 2018 unless he really pulls a rabbit out of the hat, I would like to see him played FF/Chf rotating with Jack
effectively Tyrones role
