Ben Cousins a Tiger (Merged)

Sat at Club80 with ToT70 2 weeks a go and said to Toty Goldsmith "how the hell do's one of the best 100 players of all time not get picked up at the age of 30" we both couldnt answer my highly intelligent question ;D.

I personally have never been fussed either way , though do have a very excited feel about finals tonight ;D

The thing that has blown me away is the public support for Ben (sorry our Benny)considering what it was at first, simply amazed that a pole could be at 86% for him to come to the club.

It's kind of funny that a player subject to urine tests is coming to a club everyone has been taking the *smile* out of for years.

Don't think its been mentioned yet, but thought Newman handled himself well today. Spoke articulately and fended off a few tricky questions.

I appreciate your support for Cousins. But please name one way how this will hurt the club going forward.
how about his hair test comes back positive before he plays a game.

who truly believes the list is top 4 even with a fit cousins. top 8 finishes with short term fixes means later picks which in turn means no cotchin or deledio you know those types that are at your club for 10+ yrs and you build a side around. if a player of cousins quality is required its going to be required long term we had better hope we jag one like him with a late pick. or how about hes got a kids spot and that kid goes elsewhere. hislop thomson coughlan foley tuck deledio cotchin and others not enough or not good enough either way it means no long term solution. hislop thonson cousins with compromised drafts coming up the long term can get very ugly.

most have spoken i dont want to see ferals complain if things go pear shaped.as i said welcome ben do the right thing for once.

Yep. Way better than Johnston ever did.

Well with GC17 coming in we wont get the chance for a Lids or a Cotch. However if we do play finals the value of some of our players goes up and hopefully we can then trade to GC17 for decent picks.

well done for summing up the situation . Perfect time to get ben, perfect. If anything he will make everyone else look better than they actually are

I hope now Cousins has been drafted by the club, that the same sanctions on Cousins previous club will fall on the new one, the loss of premiership points, loss of draft picks (although this club throws them away anyway) or the withdrawal of the AFL licence, seems fair, the club knew the pros and cons when they rolled the dice and drafted him, welcome Ben, may the expectations from the deluded supporters on your already frail shoulders not push you down, good luck!

I woke up at 5:20am this morning, listening to repeated news from the night before on SEN;
At 6am, it was liked I slipped into deep sleep - dreaming again - hearing the first news story revealing the Tigers would be taking Ben Cousins with pick 6;
It was hard to hold back the excitement during 10 o'clock and the look on the Collingwood and Carlton supporters around the office was priceless;
Finally Ben becomes a Tigers and quickly I'm asked, "What do you think? Are you happy?"
I say, if Ben can get through the first 4 months at Richmond and living in Melbourne without making it to the front page of a newspaper again (i.e. negative publicity) then I wish him all the best with his football; The Tigers will reap massive benefits in 2009;
Good luck Ben..."There's a bit of Tiger in everyone mate"

Weird!
Are you a Richmond supporter?
Why would you hope that?
