Ben Cousins a Tiger (Merged)

One thing that no-one seems to have touched on is the on-field confidence that Cousins would bring.

He has an amazingly strong inner confidence, self belief & is overawed at nothing when he crosses the line. Our club have been down for so long, leysy thinks even our young players get passed on a level of self doubt from senior players that has naturally crept into there game over time. Especially in crunch games as we've seen so many occasions even or especially recently.

Sure its a doubt that he'll ever get back there, but Cousins at his gut-running confident best in big games could drag forward the levels of self belief of our young brigade years ahead of what it normally might.

Excellent Leysy, some of your finest.

yes Leysy

Cousins is obsessive

Cousins has said the obsessive qualities that feed his addiction have also made him gut run at training and reach supreme levels of ability in a professional sport.

and his obsession with training will definitely be good for the guys.

While I don't think White cotchin lids Coughlan Foley etc need much extra inspiration to improve, they will appreciate an extra classy midfielder on the list

Re: Ben Cousins a tiger?

Can someone please explain what happens if (a) Cousins fails an AFL drug test in Round 18? Does Richmond lose all premiership points? (b) If the Tigers are keen to make room for Cousins in the PSD, why didn't they just use Pick 70 in the November Draft?

This is the best post on the whole Ben Cousins topic!!!!!

All opposition clubs have a motto when they play the Tigers - put enough pressure on the players and they will turn over the ball - bring Cousins into the picture and that changes the whole situation.

Do you think he can get back to his best though?
A few champs over recent years have made comebacks and ended up a shadow of their former selves.

I hope you are correct but I think many tend to look back at a footballers best in the hope that they can produce it forever. Unfortunately it rarely happens that way.

We've all seen the photoshop job of benny in full flight today, but let me remind you, this was Benny last time he was on the field..

The argument could easily be made that even at 80% he'd still be in our top half dozen but I think there might be some disappointed punters out there expecting him to reproduce the glory days.

Re: Ben Cousins a tiger?

if chubby Dew can get back and play from where he was i think Cuz will have no problems at all..
i still remember his B.O.G performance in his previous comeback for west coast.. i hope we pick him up, sheedy will keep him on the straight and narrow.

Very good points DrugfuelledHaze. The other thing that Cousins would bring to the RFC is enormous media exposure as camera's would be on him all pre-season, there would be reporting about his drug tests, his first game would be huge etc. etc. It would be fantastic from an exposure perspective for the club, just as the past 2 days has been. Even if he went off the rails, the exposure would be huge, not for the right reasons but if the club handled that properly, i.e. sacked him but sourced further counselling and support for him, then it could still look good for us for giving him a go.

Re: Ben Cousins a tiger?

If Cuz went on drugs again, we could get jayfox to exorcise the demons in him.

Re: Ben Cousins a tiger?

how do we know this isnt a whole "ricky nixon / gullible media" circus. RFC have said nothing.

A) No.
B) Salary cap reasons apparently. We need to offload Polak so his money doesn't count to TPP to make way for Run Benny Run. I don't think Ben is actually going to play for base payments.

If it wasn't true they would issue denials. By being silent, it makes it more likely.

Re: Ben Cousins a tiger?

Any company who is thinking about sponsoring the Tigers should be contacting Steven Wright asap. This is going to get even bigger especially come Monday evening if and when the AFL grant the Tigers permission to place Polak on the rookie list. The sight of Ben Cousins wearing a Richmond jumper will be splashed around all over the country. One things for sure good ol' Richard Smith is loving the exposure at the moment.

Salary cap reasons for a kid?

I think they made the Polak reason just now in order to get Cuz after a GM and Sheedy influence.

I reckon they're regretting Pick 70's PASS.

Salary cap relief for Cousins.

But to me it seems they decided to pick Cuz now not before ND day, so pick 70 would've just been a kid if they're trying to not go over the salary cap.

Excellent point.

I feel myself slowing being swayed by the pro-Cousins crowd. Where is that bandwagon...

How the tide turns. A week or two ago, there were far more anti cuz posts. The last 48 hours have seen squat from them.

Ride the wave!
