Ben Cousins a Tiger (Merged)

By the way people carry on about this guy you'd think he killed their mother...

He left some pretty grevious wounds in his club West Coast; thats pretty close to murder, and its pretty close to family: think about it.

Re: Ben Cousins a tiger?

The timing of this is what links Richmond to Cousins. As mentioned if the Tigers were going to pick up another youngster, then why wouldnt they have asked to put Polak on the rookie list earlier and then used Pick 70 in ND. We are definitely after a mature player if this comes off and one would have to think it is Cousins.

Personally I am still very wary. It's one thing to pick up Cousins fighting off the opposition clubs to get him, but I just still cant understand why no other club decided to pick him up (there must be some inside knowledge). If Cousins can stay on the beat then there is no doubt he is a great pickup for any club, but I just don't quite know if the timing is right for the RFC. It's almost as if the Tigers expect to be fighting for the premierhip in the next 2-3 years. I just don't believe this is our time. 4 or 5 years at least before we have a rounded enough team to potentially do it.

I don't think this is necessarily the case. Cousins' training intensity and work ethic, as well as his ability to run harder for longer in games than just about anyone ever, is renowned. For the likes of Lids, Tambling, Cotchin, Connors, Vickery, et al, to learn what it takes to be the best from the best, may be the ingredient that gets us that Premiership, even if Cousins has retired by then.

Provided we can deal with the off-field stuff, which I firmly believe we can, then it can only be good.

Once the public stigma is removed, watch Carlton swoop. He now has to get through to pick 6 or 7.
One of the reasons Judd cited for leaving WCE was the culture, Cousins was the leader of that culture. I don't think he'd be too happy if the Blues teamed him with Cousins again. One thing that is of concern for this whole Cousins thing is that all and sundry are urging the Tigers to take him, but very few of them seem to be willing to have him at their club. The on field impact for Richmond's young players is huge in a good way, but I'd be worried about the off field influence of Cousins and the circles he moves in.

But Judd and Kerr and apparently good mates. So much for the culture rubbish.

i reckon it was the job at visy.

Re: Ben Cousins a tiger?

Oh yeah and Judd is a saint...plz give me a break.

THe fact Judd got Cousins on stage to hold the premiership cup up even when Cousins wasnt captain showed how this guy was seen as the real leader of that footy club.

Good to see Peter Jackson come out in support of this application. His support (and Essendon's, in light of Rama's situation) could be important and influential.

That is good news. Do we know of any other club official who has thrown their support behind this?

Carlton and Essendon have supported our bid for Polak on the rookie list, although Carlton are concerned with the compensation price we may get.

I have no doubt the AFL will grant us the rights for Polak to the rookie list and will be majorly surprised if they don't.

The wheels are in motion and Ben will be a Tiger.

Great in theory but maybe that training and work ethic came at a price. Will the players look up at Cousins. It's hard to say. I think in the AFL today if you dont train hard and have excellent work ethics you generally don't make it. I dont think you need a Cousins to learn that approach. There should be enough incentive to succeeed naturally. Where he could definitely help is in game knowledge, that is if he is indeed a good teacher. I see the benefits from that point of view.

Re: Ben Cousins a tiger?

Don;t understand the change of heart over the moral highground taken when announcing the Polak would stay of the list because it gave him something to aim for - has he now got less to aim for, or is he himself aiming at less?

I'd say the players (particularly leadership group and senior players) will have been consulted carefully on this. I'd be awfully surprised if we were exploring this without their support.

I wonder if we'll hear something from Cousins any time soon about his willingness to join Richmond?

Re: Ben Cousins a tiger?

Show some balls Richmond FOR ONCE and give the guy a chance.

Re: Ben Cousins a tiger?

I'd like to see the Tigers afforded an extra pick in the PSD, and then not pick Cousins with it!
