Ben Cousins a Tiger (Merged)

Re: Ben Cousins a tiger?

I don't necessarily see this as a change of heart. The last six weeks have been an opportunity for Graham to train, improve and demonstrate his capability. Wallace was careful not to put too much pressure on the boy and at the same time demonstrate that the club cares.

Given what the medical/fitness team appears to know now, it is highly likely that Polak has not developed to a level that would warrant us carrying him on the main list.

Exactly, we have done everything possible to give GP all the time he needed. Now is our last chance to Rookie him as he obviously is not going to be ready for the early part of next season.

Re: Ben Cousins a tiger?

The wider football community seems pretty supportive I reckon. The Bummers are on Board at least.

Pretty sure that this move was driven by Polak as much as the club. If true, he is a good man Polly, putting the club before himself. Knowing now that he won't play in 2009 he could have easily been selfish and demanded to remain on the main list, but he knows that he would just taking up a spot for a person who could contribute in 2009.

On ya Polly, a true tiger. ;)

Re: Ben Cousins a tiger?

The media must be absolutely creaming themselves over this prospect.
Win, lose or draw whatever happens with benny their jobs got a whole lot easier because they just got enough tabloid fodder for next season on the back of one player.

Re: Ben Cousins a tiger?

mate of mine who is a w.c.e memebr but lives in melbourne has just signed for tiger memebrship purley on the fact that cousins could end up at richmond
and even he said that he looks better in a richmod jumper than a w.c.e one

this could be really huge for us in both terms of memebrship and sponsors , everyone that has picked up todays age and hearld-sun would know all about *smile* smith by now
imagine if that was the new sponsor that came on baord the amount of exposure they would of had,
all talk on radio is about richmond and its all been positive with what richmond is doing.
on polak the club is giving him the chance to get himself right with every chance of playing in the future

Re: Ben Cousins a tiger?

It's a sight of beauty when the RFC is on the front page - it's been too long, but don't it feel great! :clap
I LOVE IT WHEN EDDIE CRIES FOUL! :cutelaugh
Go TIGES!

Re: Ben Cousins a tiger?

This has Kevin Sheedy written all over it!

Wait until the last minute to put Polak on the "Rookie List" so it free's up a spot on our list that must be filled and the absolute masterstroke of clearing room in our salary cap that at this stage of the equation no one else will have much room to move - Cousins names a price that no-one else can fit into their salary cap except for Richmond - The AFL makes the decision it is not up to the clubs. If Richmond decide to take Cousins it is a done deal -brilliant absolutely brilliant.

This has far bigger implications than us taking Cousins - it means the Tigers are back in the real game - Winning!

Welcome back Sheeds 27 years has been a long time to wait.

If cousins stays fit in 2009 - I will go as far to say that pencil Richmond in for the 2009 Premiership!

just got a call from a mate of mine who is an Eagle memebr, and said same thing it looks like cousins will be a tiger, and he is going to put $200on him for the brownlow( seriously). Collingwood mate thinks it is a done deal and that richmond if it pulls it off( polak to rookie) and drafts cousins with one of it picks has played its cards perfectly.by staying out of the limelight, saying nothing and bluffing everyone.
its just now up to the afl and the club to allow this to happen .
this if true was a calculated move by the RFC , to draft the best possible player/s that are available
well done Sheedy

Funny. i was thinking the same thing. Sounds like it has Sheedy's name all over it ;)

I can just hear it - round 1, 2009, the chant from the southern stand "ben-ny cousins.... is a tiger, is a tiger. ben-ny cousins.... is a tiger, is a tiger"

Love that! ;D :clap

I'd suggest Sheedy's been working very hard behind the scenes.

Re: Ben Cousins a tiger?

When Gary March decided to cut down the salary cap to it's bare minimum, was it because they had plans of drafting Benny two months ago?

If so, they have handled it brilliantly keeping it so low key (except for a couple of posters claiming Ben would almost certainly be a Tiger around about the same time)

Re: Ben Cousins a tiger?

Because this has had so much support from Richmond fans and AFL fans alike, would it be a possibility that Richmond would reconsider their stance and take Cousins when the previously wouldn't have done so?

Going to be a lot of disappointed posters here if we have decided to take two kids but I would hope that whatever decision we make is thoroughly researched by those making the decisions and they are not swayed by public opinion.

Re: Ben Cousins a tiger?

To the people who think that brining cousins to the club is short sighted… How can brining an experienced footballer, brownlow medallist, grand final champion and club captain into a young team to help accelerate the learning of our younger players taking the club backwards?
As far as I see it, this will help our players take a big step forward.
