Ben Cousins a Tiger (Merged)

Re: Ben Cousins a tiger?

Sheeds was on Kb's show this morning and said he would have given Ben a chance.

Ahhhh Kevin, started work already. :clap

If we do pick Benny up, what's the bet we pick up that missing sponsor quick smart?

What's the bet we push 36K+ members?

How much publicity would this give us, none would really be against us, we are giving him a chance.

I was against Benny initially, but the more I think of it there is so much scrutiny, so much testing that Benny won't influence our young cubs to their detriment.

The more I think about, if Polak doesn't go on the ltil, bugger it, use pick 6 on Benny anyway and stick it up McChins. The scum would be taking a back seat to us all year!

Too right. You're posting well Tygrys.
I have to laugh at those who say we have nothing to lose.
NOTHING is for free and this former Brownlow medalist is damaged goods.

Let's say Cuz comes to Richmond and for all intensive purposes is a starting midfielder and integral to our lineup.
Then 1/2 way through our season he gets tested for drugs and comes up positive and gets kicked out of the game. :help
No one can tell me here that will not have a huge impact on our season and will be a massive distraction to any hope of making finals.
The media will be all over us. It would be a nightmare.

I also have to laugh at the argument that Cousins is a great trainer, will teach our players how to be their best blah blah..
Look at what happened to WC when he left? That lasting impression helped his team mates enormously didn't it.

There are two sides to every coin. You reap what you sew.
Soft.

Losing Cousins, Judd and Kerr (through injury) wouldn't have much of an impact on a team built around a midfield. Even the Eagles very ordinary forward line could function with the midfield they had. The backline had it easier too and many were over-rated.

Seeing as you're running with the "let's say Ben tests positive mid season" argument. I'll run with the "let's say Ben recaptures his Brownlow form".

The patchwork quilt we've been sewing for 27 years is a ripper.

Re: Ben Cousins a tiger?

agree with you KFC, dont care if he is or was using drugs
if he is fit mentally and physically he is a lock in our starting 18, if we get 5 games or 22 games out of him he is worth it for what little we have to pay out....
just do it

Re: Ben Cousins a tiger?

on one of my previous posts regarding this( Cousins), i did mention that Kenin Sheedy grilled Cameron at a function as to why richmond shouldnt overlook cousins, then i also mentioned that in my opinion the AFL could face very strong legal action if cousins dose not play again ( restriction of trrade) this is due to the measures that the afl has placed on cousins.with this it looks like the afl do not want egg on their face so the best way to get cousins to play again is to go to a club that can move a player/s on to rookie list or long term list. richmond is the only club that comes to mind ( polak). This will happen cousins will be a tiger unless carlton decides to throw a spanner in the works and decides to draft him. their main sponsor is visy and pratt is in enough hot water as it is so basically they dont care . eddie can complain all he likes they had their chance and didnt go for it, same as the Faints and same to Brisbane.
trust me Cousins will be a tiger, and when this happens with all the exposure richmond will get a new sponsor will be just around the corner.Cousins will be a good pick up for the tigers provided he stays on the staright and narrow
(a) premeirship player (b) brownlow winner (c) champion player (d) onfield leadership , and finally imagine how much our midefield will lift with him guding traffic.
sen even said that
cousins. cothcin. delido the best midfeild going around
round 1 2009
rich v carlton normally 70,000 crowd
judd v cousins 80,000+
bring it on

Exactly. Nothing to lose, and to argue our image will be damaged is to argue we had one in the first place.

Re: Ben Cousins a tiger?

I'm all for Cousins to Tigerland, it's about time we showed some ambition.

Yes, it's a risk but he's a gun. Onfield he sets a great example as to gut running. It will elevate Deledio, Foley, Cotchin, Tuck, Edwards and White to a new level having him beside them.

He is a winner!

The restraint of trade argument is flawed and couldn't happen. He could go play in another league if he wanted.
Agree with the rest. Bring it on.

Re: Ben Cousins a tiger?

If we get Cousins and then Coughlan returns to his best, Richmond will have the best midfield in the competition.

Imagine someone like Tambling or Connors stepping up next year too? If Tuck continues his good form that's 7 instant gun midfielders with a long line of potential behind them.

Coughlan, Foley, Deledio, Cotchin Cousins.... and Tambling/Connors/Tuck/White etc

Of course, we could just as easily end up with only Deledio and Cotchin as gun midfielders next year.

You'd be happy with that I guess.

Ahh ToO, but what if Cousins causes us to win the Grand Final?

You'd be happy with that... I guess ;D

The world is full of "what ifs?"

What if adding a proven champion midfielder got us into the finals in 2009?
What if a year or 2 of finals with a team including a proven champion midfielder meant we could have a serious crack in 2-3 years?
What if we won a flag in 3 years with a team including a proven champion midfielder?

You'd be unhappy with that I guess.

Re: Ben Cousins a tiger?

What if people waited to see what happened before whining about 'what-ifs'?

Re: Ben Cousins a tiger?

who has the feeling that richmond might get shaftted on cousins by carlton???
