In other news TOM BOSLEY is darn near the 1000 post mark, I suppose Aunty Rosey should not have taken a risk on him all those years ago either? Is that what you anti-Cousins posters are saying?
Wake up guys Cousins and Tom Bosley are on the way. Cousins to the RFC, TB to the magical 1000 mark....

Feel free to start a new tribute thread to TOM BOSLEY or a combine it with a new WELCOME to the RFC BEN thread

Either way is cool

Peace ;)

Good luck to both you and Cousins.

And you do? So our rebuild is finished and it's time to top up huh?

Huh? And I do ..... what? I'm not saying our list is complete by any means, or rebuilt. I'm saying that to roll out the ever convenient "youth policy" excuse doesn't exactly fit in with our actions.

were you being funny then?

Was that to me? Funny is a matter of personal perception. I wasn't being serious in my post to RFC if that's what you were asking ronni. Am surprised at his reaction.

We should start a 'Hey Ben Cousins whatcha having for lunch' thread. There's speculation on every other bloody aspect of his life.

Frankly I'm sick to death of Ben Cousins. I couldn't care less if he comes to Richmond, just let the saga end.

Normally the whole stalking thing isn't perceived as funny. Am surprised you think it would draw any other reaction. Then again as you say perception is a personal thing.

Hear, hear. If and when Ben becomes a Tiger I'll give it some deeper thought.

Well I did throw in the observation 'youth policy' (such as it is)'. As youth policies go I admit it's been a pretty lame one during the Wallet era. Still you seem to be implying (and I might be mistaken) that we can give it a real shake next year. With or without Cousins (drug affected or otherwise) that aint going to happen. Some of us believe youth (at least the talent variety) is the way to go and lament the fact that it has on occasions been pursued less than vigorously. Doesn't mean that we can't continue to aspire and argue for it, even if it doesn't always turn out the way we want.

Re: Ben Cousins a tiger?

If these latest developments end up being true, good on Craig Cameron for having the balls in his first yr at the helm for making such a bold decision. We all know what the worst outcome could be with Cousins, but by christ what a ride we could be in for next year.Go the Tigers & bring it on

Re: Ben Cousins a tiger?

As far as I'm concerned we should take him. He's had a few 'life'problems. Who hasn't? If he stuffs up again he's gawn! Better to have tried then not tried at all. If it works out then fantastic for all. If not, we had a crack and we move on. It's one spot in 42 after all. There's plenty of youth plus 6 rookies on the list so we haven't thrown the baby out with the bath water if it fails. The pros are aplenty with taking him.

People make it sound like we'd be drafting Ben out of the goodness of our hearts, purely for his personal benefit. If we drafted Ben it would be for what we hope he'd do for our team, same as we should do for every draft pick. If it doesn't work out it's a spot wasted that an up an coming young kid could have used. A lot of serious thought has to be weighed up.

To be honest Rosy...........I only want Ben Cousins on football abilty and what the young mids will learn from a premireship winning brownlow medalist...with minimal costs to our club...yes a kid could be taken.....Gourdis(which I hope we rookie) or a patty bowden or a Kent Kingsley!!! All it will cost is us is a PSD pick and im sure the AFL will give out some compo for taking him too :) and i could not see him demand high wages............purely football.....outside of football I agree strict guidelines and 1 KO rule...........if he wants to play football he wants to win....which god if he is hungry and rested...can you only entertain what 2009 will be like..............but knowing the RFC's luck we will take Ben and he helps us to a top four and a day b4 the Premlim.....Ben Cousin caught!!! ahhahahahaahh jokes!!

Yeah I dont think the RFC will have what it takes to draft Ben.....over 100 topics and 1000's of pages on the PRE all on headlines and speculation

I'd be hopeful we'd get 3 years out of Cousins, any less and it would be a waste. Do you think we should be in a position to challenge in 2011?

Re: Ben Cousins a tiger?

Does anyone have an absolute confirmation that this needs all 15 other clubs unanimous approval or can the AFL commission make this decision in our favour even if Collingwood and St Kilda are against it?

Two points. Firstly Claw's argument is what stresses me most about the Cousins adventure. If he was in his early 20's the potential pay-off could be fantastic and quite possibly worth the risk. Cousins unfortunately isn't young, and the pay-off is minimal in comparison and not worth the risk. Secondly, I respect your argument about not giving a toss about what anyone else thinks. I think one can mount an argument in support of that (albeit the sponsors present and future could present a problem if Cousins imploded). What I was refuting is the nonsense that we'll be looked at as some good samaratans for giving him another chance after 15 other clubs thought better of it. No we will be rediculed and mocked by other supporters and by the press for having been so naive, pathetic and desperate. To put it bluntly we will be a laughing stock. Should we care - debateable, but let's not pretend the followers of the other 15 clubs wouldn't do what we would do ourselves if roles were reversed.

Too right. You're posting well Tygrys.
I have to laugh at those who say we have nothing to lose.
NOTHING is for free and this former Brownlow medalist is damaged goods.

Let's say Cuz comes to Richmond and for all intensive purposes is a starting midfielder and integral to our lineup.
Then 1/2 way through our season he gets tested for drugs and comes up positive and gets kicked out of the game. :help
No one can tell me here that will not have a huge impact on our season and will be a massive distraction to any hope of making finals.
The media will be all over us. It would be a nightmare.

I also have to laugh at the argument that Cousins is a great trainer, will teach our players how to be their best blah blah..
Look at what happened to WC when he left? That lasting impression helped his team mates enormously didn't it.

There are two sides to every coin. You reap what you sew.

Re: Ben Cousins a tiger?

Even if they dont aprove Polaks case, who would we get more out of with the psd pick,Cousins or Gourdis etc? Just use it on Cousins anyway & most likely who we wanted will fall through to our 1st rookie pick

I haven't heard it directly but a mate of mine said that Ross Lyon was interviewed on Fox and said apparently he that he would be against the idea.
